Truly remarkable numbers. In just under two years public approval of the US Supreme Court has fallen from 66% to 38%. Simply unprecedented in rapidity. This is what fatal loss of institutional legitimacy looks like. https://t.co/HJU0x0GtPp
I’ve been really angry since the overturn but have had a hard time putting it into words … finally came up with them.
It’s that American women are once again in the position of having to fight to be in the position to make a really awful choice for ourselves.
No one _wants_ to have an abortion. But the reality of this mess we call a nation makes them a reality for so many women.
So, like, yay! Yay, America! Yay, capitalism! Yay, patriarchy! Yay, $51 billion dollars going to other people’s wars while our babies starve.
Unpopular opinion - maybe now we (and I’m talking to you, lip service liberals) actually take the time to examine the sexual dysfunction and lack of support for women and children that permeates mainstream American society.
Bottom line is that when we - as women - allow ourselves and our needs to be defined by the paradigm of the white capitalist patriarchy, access to abortion or lack thereof will always be an issue.
A President & party express horror & outrage at gun violence in our own nation in the same week that they send rockets to another?
There is something so vile & inconsistent about political leaders who militarize the world & then expect our country to be different.
@JohnJHarwood What’s unconscionable is militarizing another nation while bemoaning the militarization of your own. Seriously - our politicians need to learn about integrity and consistency.
I’m finding the writings of @SharonAstyk really valuable right now in thinking about how to deal with the chaos of the present moment and the uncertainty of the future.

As I begin to recover from sleep deprivation and start to build community in this new old home, I’m looking forward to sharing more of the tools that have helped me through this challenging time.

Today is the first day that I no longer feel rage at the events in Uvalde. Rage has been replaced with sorrow, for me, an easier emotion to observe and regulate.
Observing my emotions and learning to respond with equanimity has been at the heart of my yoga practice since giving birth to G, it’s gotten me through two years of pandemic solo parenting with very little sleep and even less in-person community.
"The Second Amendment did not come down from Sinai," the archbishop of Chicago said. "The right to bear arms will never be more important than human life. Our children have rights too. And our elected officials have a moral duty to protect them."

Our children are killing each other.
They are killing us.
Be with your grief.
Be with your rage.
Slow down & take time to experience your emotions.
Then respond from places of groundedness & compassion.
This is how we heal.
