Today, as a birthday “gift” to Putin, the Russian army destroyed a residential building in Pryluky, in the Chernihiv region. It was an ordinary five-story apartment building. Tragically, as of now, five people have been reported killed and 26 injured, including five children. There may still be people under the rubble. First responders are working nonstop at the site – doing everything possible to find every person. Russian missile strikes also damaged five apartment buildings in Dnipro and four high-rise buildings in Kremenchuk. Tragically, two people were killed and eight injured. A high-rise building in Zaporizhzhia was damaged by a drone. In Kyiv, the Russians killed two people. Two more people were killed in Oleksandriya… My condolences to all the families and loved ones of those killed. Overall, infrastructure in Kyiv and 12 regions came under attack last night.
One of the key targets was our energy infrastructure. The Russians wanted to strike painfully and demonstratively. This was one of the most vile strikes: 70 missiles in total, many of them ballistic, as well as “shaheds.” Unfortunately, only some of them were shot down. Russian ballistic missiles remain the greatest challenge. And air defense packages for us right now are a vital necessity. That is why every day we are looking for missiles for Patriot systems that can and must actually protect people’s lives here, in Ukrainian skies. Thank you to everyone who is helping us.
Gut wrenching. Authorities have pulled the bodies of three children from the building hit by a Russian missile in Pryluky. Rescuers continue to search through the rubble for missing residents. At least nine people were killed just in this strike; at least 15 killed across Ukraine by Russian missiles and drones. https://t.co/Bj3VLofEe1
‼️The first footage showing the aftermath of a missile strike on a five-story residential building in Pryluky.
In the early hours of October 7, russia attacked the Ukrainian city of Pryluky in the Chernihiv region. One of the strikes almost completely destroyed a residential building, leaving many people trapped under the rubble.
So far, at least five people have reportedly been killed and 20 more injured. Emergency crews continue to work at the site, and the death toll may rise throughout the day.

On Putin’s birthday, Russian generals brought him his favorite present: war crimes.
A massive attack with hundreds of missiles and drones hit residential buildings and critical infrastructure in Kyiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kremenchuk, and Pryluky. At least two people were killed in the capital and four more accross the country.
What Russian generals fail to tell Putin is that he is not winning this war and never will.
He has lost 1.6 million troops killed and injured without achieving a single strategic goal of his invasion. His slow advances have stalled and Ukraine started to liberate more land than he manages to occupy. His economy is in decline and his influence around the world is waning. All of this because he refuses to end this war.
Yes, it’s very difficult for Ukraine too. But the Ukrainian people are not going to give up, because it’s about Ukraine’s survival as a nation and as a state.
Russia's terror must not go unanswered.
Following this attack, I urge all partners to give Putin real presents that will help him finally choose diplomacy over war. Stronger sanctions on his military-industrial complex, including facilities producing ballistic missiles and the Rassvet satellite system, as well as stronger support for Ukraine, including all kinds of air defense and energy assistance ahead of winter.
But his ultimate present will be a dock in The Hague. We are preparing the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression Against Ukraine for practical launch already next year. Putin and his friends should know that accountability is inevitable.
.@ezraklein: “What is, to you, the ‘rage economy’?”
@JamesTalarico: “The billionaires own the algorithms and the news networks. They have created for-profit platforms that divide us on an hourly basis — by party, by race, by gender, by religion. They elevate the most extreme voices very strategically to provoke our outrage, because that leads to more clicks, which leads to more money for them.
They are selling us conflict right into our bloodstream, and they’re calling it connection.
And I think it’s left people starving for actual community.”
Tuttua historiasta.

Trump administration refuses international election monitors for first time in over 2 decades.
The decision not to invite observers from the OSCE puts the U.S. alongside Russia and Belarus, while the Justice Department prepares to deploy its own poll monitors.

Ukrainian mechanized infantry dismounted from a vehicle somewhere in the Lyman front and deployed into contact with Russian forces.
Mechanized maneuver at the tactical level is possible when the prerequisite conditions are achieved.
Our intelligence and special services are now working to establish all available information about yet another attack in the Black Sea targeting civilian vessels. Two civilian vessels were attacked in Bulgarian waters last night. One sank, while the other sustained significant damage. We express our sympathy to everyone affected.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces conducted no operations in this area of the sea, and this latest tragedy involving civilian vessels is another part of Russia’s effort to make the western Black Sea completely unfit for navigation.
We verified all the details with the Bulgarian side. Our Navy contacted its counterparts in Bulgaria, and it has been established that this was a combined Russian attack using maritime and aerial drones.
I instructed our Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, our intelligence, and other services to coordinate with our partners as fully as possible – so that both they and we have greater capacity to defend ourselves.
From the evening address.
❗️I want to sincerely thank the people of Finland for everything you have done for Ukrainians. Although the country does not publicize the scale of the aid it has provided, its contribution is in fact substantial: military support, humanitarian assistance, and a willingness to take in those forced to leave their homes. Finland has accepted a significant number of Ukrainian refugees and given them the chance to live in safety. Thank you, Finland.
It is also worth noting the restraint and consistency: the help is not offered for the sake of loud statements, but as practical support. For many Ukrainians, that has meant a roof over their heads, access to education and healthcare, and the feeling that they have not been left alone. Such solidarity means a great deal.

This isn’t a direct quote from Trump, and I very much don’t think it’s a correct paraphrase. Trump has repeatedly argued that the consequences of the war, like higher gas prices, are a small price to pay compared to what an unchecked Iran could allegedly do. Last night, in especially rambling and incomplete fashion, he 1) claimed high prices are temporary and suggested they’re “artificial”; 2) contrasted that to the damage of Iran supposedly taking out a city; 3) and then, in especially confusing style, repeated his old point that “this,” as in the consequences of the war, is a small price to pay to avoid something like a a city being wiped out.
It’s Trump’s fault you kinda have to be steeped in TrumpRallySpeak to know what he was saying last night, and of course you can say it’s inappropriate regardless for the president to casually float the possibility of a city being wiped out, but the context exists and is important.
Republican Sen. Thom Tillis says in a new book that his deciding vote to confirm Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is the "biggest regret of my career" and that he also "should've stopped" RFK Jr. from becoming Health and Human Services secretary. https://t.co/Bq4kGxwPyI
Kyiv said farewell to 25-year-old Ukrainian pilot Marat Mambetov, a major with the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade "Ghost of Kyiv," on October 4.
Marat Mambetov was killed on October 1 while carrying out a combat mission. His fighter jet was hit by a Russian missile.
Over the past two years, the Defender flew nearly 200 sorties in a MiG-29, destroying Russian aerial targets and striking occupiers’ positions.
Rest in peace, Hero.
My deepest condolences to Marat's family and loved ones.
