This discourse has been so depressing as a gamedev
I've never really handled the story / art side, I've always focused on the stuff you interact with - UI/UX, networking, gameplay, etc
It feels like people are saying that the parts I enjoy working on don't matter at all
My stance on this whole discourse is that you can say you’re a fan of a game’s visuals or writing or characters or just general Vibe but you CANNOT say you’re a fan of a game as a whole unless you’ve played it. Even if it’s a story based game, gameplay IS storytelling
