Several companies have criticized Sony’s decision to stop releasing new PlayStation games on physical discs starting in 2028.
iam8bit said it is “profoundly disappointed,” adding, “Physical games are vital to games preservation, ownership, and consumer choice.”
GameFly also said it was disappointed, saying physical games have been a core part of the company since it was founded.
Players are calling for a Sony boycott and say they won’t buy the PS6 unless Sony changes its decision to stop releasing new PlayStation games on physical discs.
@SpawnPoiint Because I like to own my shit. I like to be able to play without internet, and I like to collect them, so I can be sure I will always have them and will always be able to play them, as long as I have a console (I paid a shitton of money for btw)
According to Christopher Dring, Sony is currently facing multiple legal cases over claims that the PlayStation Store has too much control over digital game sales.
Here are the main lawsuits:
> United Kingdom – An ongoing £2 billion ($2.7 billion) class action claims Sony abused its dominant position by making the PlayStation Store the only place to buy digital PlayStation games and add-ons.
>United States – Sony recently agreed to a $7.85 million settlement in a class action over its 2019 decision to stop retailers from selling digital PlayStation game download codes.
>Netherlands – Sony is also facing a collective lawsuit alleging the PlayStation Store charges unfairly high prices because of its control over digital game sales.
Wow @PlayStation I knew you didn't care about us, but this is another level. So fuck the people who like to collect games in physical, I guess. Why don't you cut us the access to the games offline while you're at it? ... oh wait.
Sony announces they will stop producing physical discs for PlayStation from January 2028.
New video games will be released in digital formats only, through retailers and the PlayStation Store.

Google Chrome is quietly downloading a roughly 4 GB AI model to many users’ computers without clear upfront consent.
The file, called weights.bin, is part of Google’s Gemini Nano on-device language model and lands in the browser’s user data folder under OptGuideOnDeviceModel.
It powers built-in AI tools such as “Help me write,” smarter tab suggestions, on-device scam detection, and page summarization. The download triggers automatically for devices meeting minimum hardware requirements, and Chrome often replaces the files if deleted.
While the model processes data locally, installation happens in the background with minimal notification.
The scale is noteworthy. Hundreds of millions or billions of installations add up to thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions globally from data transfer, even though each is a one-time event.
To prevent or remove it, go to chrome://flags, disable the entries for the optimization guide on-device model and Prompt API, restart the browser, and manually delete the folder.
