@wisconsin_now I appreciate your coverage and advocacy on this topic, Jessica. You’re serving a very valuable role in helping citizens understand this much better.
@ProV1Smile@TreezyBets My Srixon irons were $200 per iron, which is pretty standard among OEMs. Think Titleist might be in the $215-225 range. Did you buy used?
@EPatGolf They often don’t play the same shaft + loft/lie combos. But Cobra sponsors him in part because they want people to buy their latest driver. The head model (Cobra DS-Adapt Max K) is one you can buy at any retailer.
Btw agree - bifurcation should result in <460cc heads for pros
@Top100Rick A great story and he will rightfully have a lot of support. I’d like to see him contend in a major this year. Always thought he has the talent (mainly distance) to be a multiple major winner.
@BrianKirschner_@UESgolf I think it’s important to ask, why don’t first-timers win? Is it nerves? Is it lack of familiarity versus the more experienced players? I think the ladder is a compelling argument. As for nerves, Gotterup’s victories speak for that.
@UESgolf@BrianKirschner_@JosephLaMagna I don’t know if his talent is generational or not. But he’s playing better than all of the “generational” players in his age bracket over the past year. Gotterup is top 10 in the last year in SG off tee, and that is a stronger predictor at Augusta than elsewhere.
I've received this DM a few times:
The emerging golfer who is improving, gaining speed, and is ready to upgrade from their Dad's hand-me-down driver. Could be a player who is physically growing.
When anticipating significant swing improvement over the life of a new driver, I have a few recommendations:
1. Pick a driver with loft adjustment
2. And weights that can adjust front/back
3. Do not get fit into the low end of the driver's adjusted loft (I'd rather you buy a 9.0 than a 10.5 set to low)
4. Do not get fit into the most forward weight position. (a common prescription for beginner slicers)
5. Consider a shaft that is stiffer than what you think you need.
As you add speed (which adds spin), you can reduce loft or shift weights forward. Like buying kids shoes a size too big.
