9/11 taught us what hate can do and what happens when New Yorkers choose unity over division.

As a former teacher who taught in the years soon after 9/11, and later as a City Council Member who worked to combat hate and strengthen communities, I have seen how important those lessons remain.

Nearly 25 years later, we cannot fight hate selectively. Antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism and bigotry all tear at the same fabric of our city.

That is why building bridges across communities is central to @JCRCNY’s work.

We honor those we lost not only by remembering, but by choosing courage, decency and solidarity over fear and division.
