On 7th August 1860 - 161 years ago today - the first Volunteer Review in Scotland took place in Queens Park Edinburgh. 348 Volunteer companies marched in front of Queen Victoria + 200000+ spectators, from all over Scotland and the north of England (15hrs by train from Inverness!)
Working on research for my piece about how important foreman and son-in-law Alexander Brown was to Alexander Henry .. very interesting.. then what do I do with it?!
#marr - What's your message to Boris Johnson?
Simon Coveney(Irish Foreign Affairs)- There's only one side threatening to break international law. There's only one side breaking its word... & Britain's reputation is being damaged in a very serious way.

On this day in 1818, Alexander Henry was born to James and Janet Henry, at Hillhousefield, Leith. Today is his 202nd birthday.
Also on this day, in 1892, his employees presented him with a magnificent watch fob, for his 74th birthday.

On this day in 1865, at the National Rifle Association (not THAT one) rifle trials at Woolwich, to choose which rifle would be fired at the 2nd stage of the Queen's prize at Wimbledon, between "old rivals", Whitworth and Henry, result "really a great triumph for the Henry rifle"
