Incredible piece of writing, tear jerking. Any real football fan will never forget R9 or base his career just on numbers. No doubt in my mind that himself, Maradona and of course Messi, are the three greatest and most gifted players to ever grace a football pitch 🙏🏻
"The wobbled heads, twitching arseholes, and broken souls of opposition defenders were a common sight that season."
It's Friday afternoon. Take fifteen minutes out and read @owenblackhurst on Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, our Issue Four cover story.

@Utdvellum@art_foot Arguably the most underrated player of the 21st century. Never gets mentioned with Xavi and Iniesta but was on an equal footing in terms of technical ability and intelligence. A level above Rodri.
@aight_dawg Ronaldo has definitely had nightmares about Messi when his head hits the pillow. He must despise him…. Nothing he ever does will put him anywhere near him, he knows it. The comparison only exists because his goal numbers are similar, doesn’t mean he is anywhere close to him..
@thefedexpresss 100%. Alcaraz is fun to watch but the field isn’t the same, or as enticing. This is my exact problem with football too. Once Messi left Europe, my football interest has dramatically dropped, to the point that I only watch my own team. They elevated the game to unreachable levels
@ade_oladipo1 100% agree, I thought it was just me losing interest in football right now, but it seems there are a lot of people in the same boat. It is like a robotic game of Fifa, everyone is running the same programme.
@GoldbergCFC Is Caicedo broken tonight? Had an absolute stinker. The ill discipline in this team is going to cost us a top four spot. Can argue about needing experience all we like, but the stupidity of a lot of players is what will cost us. Inexcusable.
@CornishShirt Maresca getting too much heat for this one. Players been bullied on the ball, lazy and sloppy. Just not at it. Infuriating none the less.
I’ve been watching him pretty much week in & week out for the best part of two decades, and yet, to this day — it’s still the most special feeling in sport. Nothing comes close.
Lionel Messi is timeless. The greatest.
@FCBxDAM And this is why I can’t get overly excited about football anymore. When you have seen the best player there has ever been, playing in the best team there has ever been, playing the best football there has ever been… nothing else comes close
@___JacobTaylor @ManUtd@gmpolice@premierleague Look at the state of him, he must have a terrible little life if this is what a goa being scored at football does to him
@TheEuropeanLad If Messi wanted to, he could still play for any top European side, he is still the best player in the world when the ball is at his feet. But, he has completed football and is choosing to chill in Miami. No player has ever had such a luxury before.
@AlexGoldberg_ I find it so hard watching Caicedo in this team. Why does nobody mention that he cheaply gives away possession constantly, plays the wrong ball and puts his team mates in danger. He hasn’t done enough at all, yet people think he has done well this season. Really poor
