Salt in the joints
ropes in the tongue
deadfall dreams
snapping shut
under the ribs

Clouds drift in reverse
as the sun drowns—
a coin already spent

light forgets
the warmth of its hands

One exiled star tugs loose
from the frame
a pin dropped
from God’s coat
falling without arriving

The sea lies on its back
chewing its mirror
keeping everything

the bruised peach
split open across the horizon
the blind boats
standing in their afterlife

#Dawn trespassed upon the hush of the attic, giving it a lambent glow. A breeze in the rafters, like an underwater current, caused the cobwebs to wave like seaweed. The dust motes that lazily swam by, and drifted downward had silenced the footprints long ago.

Every morning Penelope awoke refreshed. She ate a breakfast of scones, quince jam and tea. After a quick tidying up of her quaint cottage, she ventured outdoors to check the #deadfall for hikers and runaways. She loved trapping her dinner.
