The undisputed mbavu destroyer 🦁🔥
Lions are serious eaters. In one sitting, a lion can consume up to 40 kg of meat, about a quarter of its body weight. Their rough tongues are covered with tiny hook-like structures called papillae, which help scrape meat off the bones.
Leaving no chance for leftovers.

BasiGo begins Local Assembly of Electric Vans in Kenya
BasiGo has commenced local assembly of its electric vans in Kenya - the Ma3e model, delivering the country's first locally assembled electric vans. In partnership with Associated Vehicle Assemblers (AVA), a leading Kenyan contract manufacturer based in Mombasa, the vans are being built from Complete Knocked Down (CKD) kits, with the first 22 locally built units set for delivery to customers in April and May.
Designed for high-utilisation operations, the Ma3e has a range of up to 300 km (NEDC) and supports a broad set of use cases - including public transport service, school shuttles, corporate staff transport, airport transfers, and hotel shuttle services.
Over the past 10 months, BasiGo has been operating two electric vans on intercity routes, including Nyahururu-Nyeri-Nakuru and Nairobi-Thika. Their strong performance has validated both the product and the operating model, driving a reservation pipeline of over 500 units. Local assembly is now the critical next step to unlock scale of the Ma3e.
Looking ahead, BasiGo plans to deploy thousands of electric vans across Kenya, accelerating the country’s climate commitments and positioning Kenya as a blueprint for clean, inclusive transport solutions.

Immediately following the validation workshop, we will host a focused Data Consultation Meeting to explore how partners can collectively strengthen the data ecosystem needed to unlock investments in instituitional clean cooking.
By bringing together financiers, project developers, policymakers, and research organizations, we aim to identify what data already exists, what gaps remain, and how we can make information more accessible to support policy decisions and investor confidence.
Collaboration is key, and we welcome partners to join us in building a stronger, more transparent foundation for scaling clean cooking solutions across Kenya and beyond.
We are pleased to convene partners for the Institutional Clean Cooking Sector Pack Validation Workshop - a key milestone in positioning clean cooking not only as a development priority, but as a strategic green investment opportunity for Kenya.
This engagement brings together government, investors, development partners, and private-sector innovators to validate the data, strengthen the investment case, and align around a shared vision for scaling clean cooking across schools, hospitals, prisons and other institutions.
Together, we move one step closer to unlocking finance, accelerating green industrialization, and delivering modern, sustainable kitchens for Kenya.

Communities often know best the climate challenges they face—and the solutions that work for them, rooted in local knowledge and experience. That’s why WWF-Kenya partnered with @NakuruCountyGov Government to strengthen grassroots climate governance across 55 wards through the Voices for Just Climate Action (VCA) programme.
With this support, 55 Ward Climate Change Planning Committees were established and trained to develop climate action proposals that successfully attracted funding from the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLoCCA) programme.
One such success story is Barut Ward, where the committee secured funding to solarise an existing borehole that had fallen into disuse. Today, the solarised borehole serves over 2,500, complemented by a 10,000-litre water tank, a water kiosk, and a pipeline network delivering clean water to over 700 homes.
"Through the VCA programme, we were able to capacity build them [Ward Committees] in development of proposals which we call them bankable proposals which can attract funding, and through that we have been able to identify 56 projects within those wards and currently around 53 are complete. That platform has made sure we have a participatory approach in terms of infusing the citizen science and also bringing onboard the real issues that were identified during our assessment." Grace Karanja Director—Environment, Energy, Climate Change & Natural Resources, Nakuru County Government.
This achievement was made possible through collaboration with @adaconsortium , Arid Lands Information Network (ALIN), Kenya Climate Change Working Group(@KCCWG ), Sustainable Energy Access Association Kenya (@SEAAKenya ), Slum Dwellers International (@sdi_net) partners in the VCA programme—who ensured inclusivity and trained committees on writing winning proposals for climate solutions. Additional support also came from WWF-Kenya Leading Change project funded through @WWFSverige .
The @WeAreVCA project was funded by @wwfnederland.

Closing the Loop in Lamu.♻️
@LamuCountyKe is charting a new path toward a cleaner and more circular future through the development of its first-ever Sustainable Waste Management Act. The legislation integrates key principles of sustainable waste management including waste segregation at source, the establishment of Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), and the implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) at the county level.
Dr. Mbarak, County Executive Committee Member for Public Health, Sanitation and Solid Waste Management and Deputy Governor of Lamu County reaffirmed the County’s commitment to sustainable waste management and a circular economy transition.
Supported under the DANIDA Green Business Partnerships (DGBP) through the Closing the Loop Project, this landmark policy lays the foundation for green job creation, a thriving circular economy, and improved livelihoods for waste value chain actors across the County.

When Shohei Ohtani was a high school freshman, he created a detailed "dream sheet" with one central goal: to be the #1 draft pick for 8 NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) teams.
It was a 64-cell roadmap based on a framework called the Harada Method.
Here's exactly what Shohei did 👇
1. First, some history.... The Harada Method was created by Takashi Harada, a Japanese junior high track coach. He took a team ranked last out of 380 schools and, using his system, turned them into the #1 team in the region within 3 years. They held that top spot for the next 6 years.
2. You start by placing your main goal in the center of an 8x8 grid. For Ohtani, this was "be the #1 draft pick."
3. Next, you identify 8 critical supporting pillars needed to achieve that goal. These surround the main goal.
Ohtani's 8 pillars were:
• Body
• Control
• Sharpness
• Speed
• Pitch Variance
• Personality
• Karma/Luck
• Mental Toughness
4. You then break down each of those 8 pillars into 8 smaller, actionable tasks or daily routines.
This fills out the entire 64-cell grid, turning a massive dream into a concrete, daily action plan.
To improve his karma, he listed tangible actions like:
• Showing Respect to Umpires
• Picking up trash
• Being positive
• Being someone people want to support
5. The method goes far deeper than just technical skills. It forces you to analyze your weaknesses and build confidence. It also has a highlight on service to others, emphasizing that humility and contributing to your community are essential for personal success.
6. The key to the system is daily execution and accountability. Once the 64-cell chart is complete, you turn the tasks and habits into a daily diary and a "Routine Check Sheet." It’s designed to transform abstract intentions into a measurable, daily practice.
1,960 Hectares of Blue Forest Rising: Kenya’s Mangrove Miracle 💙
Before ➡️ After
Nature heals when we act together.
In Gazi, Vanga, and Mwache, the coastline is coming back to life. Where bare mudflats once stood, thriving mangrove forests now stretch across 1,960 hectares proof that community-led and scientifically guided conservation works.
🌱 52 hectares rehabilitated through enrichment planting — community hands restoring coastlines
🌿 1,908 hectares regenerating naturally — nature responding to protection
🌍 1,960 hectares in total — a blue forest reborn in Kwale County
Mangroves are coastal superheroes:
🌀 Shielding communities from storms and erosion
💨 Storing up to five times more carbon per hectare than terrestrial forests
🐟 Serving as breeding grounds for fish and marine life
🌾 Creating livelihoods through effective restoration and eco-enterprises
This transformation was made possible through the International Climate Initiative (@iki_germany ) of Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment (@BMUV), via @WWF_Deutschland , in partnership with Kenya’s coastal communities and the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (@KmfriResearch ).
From degraded shores to thriving blue forests this is what happens when people, nature and purpose come together. 🌊💚

Through art, Mombasa came alive at the #WimbiLaSanaa Festival during Bahari Huru Day, a vibrant five-day celebration of culture, creativity, and ocean action 🌊🎭.
Led by @JukwaaArts , the festival reached nearly 2,000 people, transforming the coastline into a platform for advocacy through music, theatre, and beach clean-ups.
The event promoted marine conservation, waste segregation at source, and showcased job opportunities in transport, sorting, and recycling, reducing marine litter and improving coastal livelihoods.
This initiative was supported by DANIDA’s Green Business Partnerships (DGBP) through the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs under WWF-Kenya’s #ClosingTheLoop Project.
