Aaron Wan-Bissaka @awbissaka represented DR Congo at the 2026 World Cup. Yet Rwanda’s Foreign Minister has seized upon his signing to sarcastically “welcome” him beneath the Visit Rwanda logo.

This is not tourism promotion.

It is a political trophy.

While the UN Security Council demands that Rwanda end its support for M23 and withdraw its forces from Congolese territory, the Rwandan government is using Aston Villa’s shirt, badge and Congolese player to taunt the victims of that conflict.

Your club is no longer facing a hypothetical reputational risk. The damage is already happening.

Aston Villa’s badge is being used to mock the country represented by one of its own players.

At what point does sponsorship become complicity?

Will Aston Villa’s leadership respond — or simply allow the Rwandan regime to keep using the club as a propaganda tool?

Muyaya Challenges World: What If Congo Urged Rwandan Youth to Fight Paul Kagame?

DRC government spokesperson @PatrickMuyaya is challenging the international community following controversial remarks by veteran Rwandan politician Tito Rutaremara concerning Banyamulenge youth and M23.

Muyaya asked international partners to imagine the situation in reverse:

What would happen if a Congolese minister or senior figure called on Rwandan youth to take up arms and fight Rwanda’s government?

The question comes with a recent precedent.

In December 2025, Belgian Foreign Minister @prevotmaxime was among prominent international officials who strongly condemned inflammatory remarks by a Congolese military spokesperson targeting the Tutsi community. The FARDC subsequently distanced itself from the remarks and suspended the spokesperson.

Now Muyaya is effectively asking whether the same standard of condemnation will apply when controversial rhetoric comes from Rwanda.

He also welcomed Banyamulenge voices who rejected Rutaremara’s characterization of them as Rwandans and opposed calls to take up arms against their own country.

🇨🇩 Kinshasa’s position : Banyamulenge are Congolese, and nobody outside Congo has a mandate to redefine their identity or mobilize them for war.

The question now: will international partners respond with the same urgency?

While ordinary Rwandans queue for water, @PaulKagame keeps spending to sanitize his image. It’s 2026, and this is happening inside @CityofKigali itself, the regime’s showcase capital.

Entire neighborhoods go weeks, sometimes months, without running water, because this @RwandaGov has decided beautification and photo-ops matter more than whether its own citizens live with basic dignity.

In the wealthy districts, where the elites, diplomats, and foreign “experts” live, the taps never run dry. In the poorer neighborhoods, they stay dry for weeks on end. That is a choice and not an infrastructure failure.

And while families ration from jerrycans, Kagame’s regime is chasing a @F1 Grand Prix costed at a reported $1.2 billion for cars going in circles, so the regime can look modern on international television. Money for the circus; none, apparently, to fix the pipes. The hypocrisy is obscene.

If this is Kigali, home to roughly two million people +, the part of Rwanda the regime most wants the world to see, then picture what the other eleven million endure in the countryside every single day.

And remember: this is only the water crisis. The same order of priorities runs through everything else - health, education, agriculture. Kagame’s regime spends on prestige. Rwandans pay the price.

🇷🇼The erosion of the rule of law in Rwanda is a fact. Judicial independence is virtually nonexistent, while due process, protection from the arbitrary use of state power, and equal treatment before the law are routinely undermined.

Under @PaulKagame’s authoritarian rule, the justice system has become a tool of repression rather than a safeguard against it. Critics face arbitrary detention, while journalists, activists, and opposition figures have reported politically motivated prosecutions, unfair trials, and prolonged detention.

A stark example is @VictoireUmuhoza, Rwanda’s most prominent opposition leader, whose repeated prosecutions and detention have been widely criticized by international human rights organizations and the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
