I’ve been following NC elections for over 50 years, and I’ve never known a primary to end in a tie. Under a 1915 law (yes, 1915), if after canvass there is a tie in a multi county Senate race, there is NO recount, instead there is an AUTOMATIC second primary unless one of the two withdraws. If there is a tie in the SECOND primary, the primary is vacated and the party executive committee chooses the winner and is not limited to the tied candidates. GS 163-111
2 precincts left w a 172 vote margin in #sd26--the $10 Million State Senate race.
This is a fine print election--it's going to be decided by canvass & recount--not whatever we see tonight, tomorrow, or even this week.

A week has passed, and what seemed likely is now patently obvious. There is zero evidence that anyone from Duke’s basketball program was “punched in the face” at the Smith Center last week. Nor is there any evidence that a staffer was “trampled on the floor” or “in a complete brawl”, for that matter. Some have asked why I’m talking about this. It’s certainly not because of a sports rivalry. That’s no business of the DA’s Office. But I’ve seen firsthand how reckless accusations of violence incite more violence, and that is my business. Someone with the power and influence of a major men’s basketball coach should exercise more discretion before just saying things that can have real-world consequences.
“Think of the men and women who made North Carolina great. ..
If North Carolina is known for anything it’s barbecue and college basketball. Now imagine a statue of Dean Smith, Coach K, and Jimmy V at the Capitol. Now that would bring tourists” https://t.co/Y6xGNDSQWv
