Ursula K. Le Guin in 2014:
“Hard times are coming, when we will be wanting voices who can see alternatives to how we live now, can see through our fear-stricken society and its obsessive technologies to other ways of being…We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable—but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings.”
During the feudal era, the greed and power of kings ruled society until the people fought back.
Now, in the capitalist era, the greed and power of billionaires rule society. Like the kings, they think their reign will last forever, but it will only last until the people rise up and change it.
Different eras, similar struggle. The struggle of the people to liberate ourselves from the greed of the ruling class and the power and wealth imbalances of top-down hierarchical societies.
As powerful and inescapable as capitalism feels, it has no power without the people and the workers who make it run! Once the people figure this out en masse the world is ours to collectively share together!
@MMTLabour The large print giveth, the small print taketh away.
I suspect the “bold” NCS will turn out to be rather less than what’s required.
I hope I am wrong but despite the noise, this isn’t likely to be a major change in direction.
@troovus Yes and the cuts have a firm target date and the good bits will of course take time ie don’t hold your breath. Lots of drama but no major shift.
It’s a tough call but these are the most important to me:
1. The Chameleons Script of the Bridge
2. The Stone Roses S/T
3. Aztec Camera High Land, Hard Rain
4. Orange Juice You Can’t Hide Your Love Forever
5. The Sundays Reading, Writing & Arithmetic

"In 2016, Trump's goal was to control the media. In 2026, it is to destroy the media. He recognizes it as a depreciated asset. Trump is a corporate raider doing what corporate raiders do. He seeks to destroy the media much as he seeks to destroy the US itself."

Trying to think of bands or artists who drastically changed their sound while keeping the same name. Scott Walker, Beastie Boys, to a lesser extent Joy Division. Not looking for something like Opeth with Damnation since that was a one-off
