Found a great article giving some activities to help middle schoolers with their self-esteem. At an age where everyone else's opinion matters, it is crucial that educators are reminding their students that they are all important

This is such a great article. We need to actually implement this type of counseling to help make more well rounded people, instead of just writing them off.

“We really have the know-how now with restorative justice and mood behavioral support to make sure that kids aren’t being arrested, but I think that we really haven’t had the will.”

A6: I have seen technology used for individualized lesson plans, while also having sporadic benchmark assessments, which is very helpful because it gives teachers more time to focus on certain students.

A5: I think small groups is very effective, b/c it gets Ss to have a discussion while also taking into account their personalities. It is important to change up the small groups though, b/c Ss can start to rely to heavily on each other #Culture_Schooling#CalTPAChat#CalTPA
@AnahyyRodriguez I love the idea of a portfolio, because it is a great visual aid, so the students can see their own progress, and realize how much they've grown.
A4: I think a good way for Ts to check for understanding is to do assessments, such as interactive writing/reading/editing. Also having student driven discussion about the lesson before and after.

A3: Ts can make sure students are doing the heavy lifting by giving group/independent work/ the Ts can also ask more open ended questions to get students to participate. #CalTPAChat#CalTPA#culture_schooling
A2: The best way for students to be engaged, is for the teacher to be engaged. When I show an interest or can make something fun, then they will want to participate. #CalTPAChat#CalTPA#Culture_Schooling
A1: The way I would welcome students is by celebrating mistakes, and reminding students that learning is a process, and take some of that pressure away. #CalTPAChat#CalTPA#Culture_Schooling
A4. The best way to keep students engaged is for the teacher themselves to stay engaged, take more time on that lesson if the students are responding well; ask for feedback after, see what they liked/disliked so you can include it in the future. #Culture_Shooling#ColChat
A3. I would support adults to learn by giving them clear, straightforward information. I would encourage them to keep an open-mind for other perspectives. #Culture_Schooling#ColChat
A2. I would support students who are reluctant to learn by finding a different angle on the subject to get them interested. I would also find the subject that they love and incorporate other subjects into that lesson-creating lesson tailored to them. #Culture_Schooling#ColChat
A1. The factors that lead to reluctant learners include fear of failure, not excited about the material, and not being included in the master narrative (not being represented in the literature). #Culture_Schooling#ColChat
