@MarcelineLeiman Bags of bits are easier to toss into my bag, and if the bits are less likely to be crushed than the box they're in, the bag holds up better and longer if I'm carrying the game around.
(I've wrecked multiple plastic travel chess sets that have clamshell boards. Hive still strong)
Oh Captain, My Captain! is @adamsmedia's new Descended from the Queen game, and the first standalone RPG published at @simonschuster@OneShotRPG talks to Rascal about what traditional publishing could mean for the future of the tabletop industry

@DruidPax @SpicyEncounters The rules are 100% free, but then I, the GM, don't get to flip through my Wizard Tome looking at all that Paizo art for inspiration for my next session.
"I'm not supposed to tell you this, but... you know Pagliacci? That freakin' CLOWN that goes onstage curing people's depression without a license? Well the medical board or whoever heard he was gonna be here, set this entire thing up. This whole doctor's office is a Trap."
@KP11Studios I'm glad to hear it's not the end, because I just learned about it today.
It's honestly the Moonbeam connected project that got me most excited.
@bbylwyr21@thehandsomezach Like literally, legally you could just draw a giant middle finger and if you intended it to be your mark then it counts.
(This is why most of the super important stuff gets notarized, "so and so drew this in front of me and said it was their mark and they meant to agree")
@NSeanchai@SpicyEncounters Pathfinder 2 could do with a nice piece at the front like 4e had "the basic rule is roll this 20 sider and if you beat it, one thing happens; beat it by 10 and a bigger thing happens. Miss and you don't do that thing. Miss by 10 and things get worse. All other rules just modify"
@WardukeAtHome@SpicyEncounters But part of what lets a one-pager work is super tight focus on which mechanics are necessary to do its thing. And also a bit of assumption about which mechanics can be implied to a player who has probably played something before.
One-page versus many page is difference in scope.
@Ishanekon@SpicyEncounters Though, to be fair, the big popular game is also a big massive tome. And then it doesn't give the same support.
Like PF2e vs Cairn or Mausritter or something that is actually 60 pages versus D&D that is still a big tome
@popelizbet Talking with someone else in my office, our conclusion is that ending Chevron Deference is going to make a very lucrative new area of creating ambiguity in statutes in motions for injunctions.
@PartyOfOnePod I don't remember how I first heard of Party of One but the first episode I remember listening to was the two-parter of Lovecraftesque with Wormtooth.
Which was super good and got me thinking about running the same kind of thing for friends of mine.
@JimmyShelter @PartyOfOnePod My favorite part about Party of One is I can actually listen to a full episode in a single day's commuting. Other APs that fit a four hour session into a single episode are like an entire week commitment PER EPISODE
Coming this autumn:
DRIFTING: AN ACTUAL PLAY PODCAST
The story of two people on parallel earths and the apocalypse they have in common.
A combination solo/duet AP miniseries.
Starring Jeff Stormer & @kat_kuhl_.
Produced by @MarcelineLeiman.
I can't wait for you to hear it.
@PartyOfOnePod Stacks of Goblins by CobblePath Games https://t.co/8jfZflojM2
You play a stack of goblins in a trenchcoat, trying to complete a task before being exposed. Roles of Players can switch as goblins decide they could do better than the other.
@lenawithabox@sscaide@catherinespaws And honestly, even in anime, those filler episodes done well can be great. In the original Fullmetal Alchemist, there's an episode that has Hawkeye and the other members of Mustang's unit training a puppy and investigating a warehouse.
It was good characterization
@josh_is_loud@SpicyEncounters The core books *look* intimidating, but really most things come down to DC by level (plus or minus 5-10 depending on factors) and then you critical fail or succeed if your result is 10 or more away from that number.
Virtually every system boils down to that basic mechanic.
@T_M_Hudson@BeatMeat3@Nakuurs @snowttrpg Again, a "Hey, before you follow though on that idea, this is a thing I can do, why don't we do it"
(I mostly DM, but when I know that Bless and Guidance and stuff like that are available, I kinda nudge players toward using all their stuff if I know it's there)
@T_M_Hudson@BeatMeat3@Nakuurs @snowttrpg I feel like a cantrip with a Duration of minutes can just have 'hey let's retcon that this bonus is on' is a decently reasonable thing.
Or have players set up the "assume I do this" ahead of time
