"Strength, power and aerobic capacity of transgender athletes: a cross-sectional study" (2024) British Jl of Sports Medicine:
"these results should caution against precautionary bans and sport eligibility exclusions (...) not based on sport-specific (or sport-relevant) research"
The #USA has justified its intervention in #Venezuela citing the Venezuelan government's record of human rights violations, but accountability for human rights violations cannot be achieved through unilateral military intervention that violates international law.
We fear that the current instability & increased militarisation due to the US intervention will further worsen the situation in Venezuela.
The future of Venezuela must be determined solely by the Venezuelan people, with full respect for their human rights, incl. the right to self-determination & sovereignty over their lives and resources.

On #Eurovision: Well-done @Spain, @Ireland and @Slovenia! I have spoken out firmly against the current participation of Israel in sporting and cultural intl competitions.
Yet, any obstacles on Israeli artists would constitute unjustified discrimination.
My report on AI and creativity:
- AI offers benefits BUT cannot substitute creativity
- human rights trump AI
- cultural rights approach:
data sovereignty, opt in laws, accountability, measures 4 bias & 4 marginalised owners
- NO BIG techs setting agendas-need 4accountability

✨UN Special Rapporteur on #CulturalRights@AlexXanthaki sharing a few words in the conclusion segment of the #UCLGCultureSummit:
"It is crucial that #LRGs have a voice in #mondiacult2025 towards defining the future of cultural rights and start boosting multilateralism."
@FIFA has again failed to listen to civil society and intl law and exclude #Israel from #sporting competitions. In the face of so many international expert opinions, it is such a let down to give in to pure political pressure. Shameful…
Yesterday I called with colleagues for suspension of #Israel from @FIFAcom & @UEFA amid unfolding genocide in occupied #Palestine.
Sporting bodies must not turn a blind eye to grave human rights violations, especially when their platforms are used to normalise injustices.

I am very concerned about the lack of clear action by #India to address events of physical violence causing death by vigilante groups which have disproportionately targeted the minority Muslim community. With colleagues, I asked the state to respond but we had no answer.
UN experts reaffirm central role of gender in advancing human rights & express deep concern about attempts to reassert rigid, binary conceptions of sex.

Legal and policy frameworks that do not take this reality into account, or that impose rigid divisions between sex and gender, are *limited in their ability to meaningfully address structural inequality or ensure the full realization of women’s and girls’ universal human rights*.

Today an unprecedented amount of UN Special Rapporteurs, 45 renowned experts, have reaffirmed gender equality as a cornerstone of human rights and substantive equality.
Despite the hate speech, the organised mob, we stand firm in protecting human rights.
They recognise that Conceptions of womanhood are not modelled by biology alone, but through processes of socialisation, intersecting forms of discrimination, the enforcement of gender norms, and change over time. These interactions frequently lead to the denial of women’s rights.
