The population of canada is small and mostly in the big citites where there is nothing.

There are no roads because there are no people.

Northwestern Ontario and BC had timber operations, and that brought logging roads and so forth, but in Ontario, they went out of business 25 years ago.
Out west the Pine Beatle killed off vast swathes of forest. The logging industry is dead.

Even then, the forests are mostly Crown land with no road access. The try to do pre-burn (close to town or cities etc) but a couple years back the burns got out of control and burned towns down.

Yes we had 100+ years of "stop all fires" forest practice, like the Americans had since TR.

But then we had a forestry sector out there to protect. But now there is nothing. And we still have all that forest with no road access. Literally nothing. Some northern "towns" have just rail access. The firefighting crew have to chopper in. But then where do they sleep? who gets them food?

The only path forward is through. Let nature take its course. Burn through hundreds of years of deadfall.

Really. There is no other way. It is about logistics too. No roads, no rail. Nothing. Just helicopter. And then what? The fires move so fast, that you may not get them out in time. A few more water bombers are going to make a meaningful difference.

The crews and water bombers are best deployed to defend towns.

Otherwise, it is just a lot of nothing. Massive wilderness that will all eventually get burned through.

Timber/forest industry is dead out west and in NW Ontario.

It's a big country and who's out there in the middle of nowhere to cut fell trees?

On top of that we had over 100 Years of a policy to stop fires before they had a chance to clean up the underbrush. The Americans had the same policy.

There is pre-burning up here but towns have half burned down or have been threatened buy fire started with pre-burn so there's only so much you can do.

I think the only real answer is to go through. Let nature take its course. These fires every year are huge, and they may take 10 years but eventually it'll burn through the forests that haven't seen a fire in 100 years. It's Nature's cleaning service. We will all suffer in the meantime but there's not much we can do about it. What is 1 more water bomber going to do?

Come out the other side with forests they have cleaned themselves up of 100 Years of undergrowth, and start healing themselves. The population here is small and the forests are so massive.

There's no infrastructure. How do you get out there the only way is by helicopter. It is so hopeless. Through and out the other side is the only solution, but no one wants to say it.

this is the result of 100+ years of putting out every fire as fast as possible. The Timber industry died in NW Ontario. The pine beetle killed all the trees out west. They try to preburn, but half a town gets burned down the process.

At a certain point, you've got to let nature take its course, and burn through these areas who havent seen a fire in 100 years. They isnt much we can do about it.

This is an insult to the crews who are putting themselves in harms way for 14+ hour days for weeks without rest—doing their best right now to control these fires.

We have among the best forest management in the world.

You have zero idea how quickly these fires start and spread.

Forest moisture content is monitored daily, weather patterns—humidity, temperature, etc. monitored daily.

Crews sit on 5-10 minute standby notice, and our forests are constantly monitored—by satellite, plane and helicopter patrols, etc.

Crews are deployed at a moments notice—helicoptered into blazing infernos as soon as they are detected to deploy pumps to the nearest water source.

They exit hovering helicopters into swamps, chainsaw their way into the fires—carrying hundreds of Lbs of hose, pumps, and hand tools.

Often the moisture content, fuel load, and temperature is too much—fires can make multi-kilometre runs in mere hours, with flames reaching 100s ft.

The effectiveness of air attack is limited. Sometimes the fires are putting off so much smoke and heat that it is impossible for helicopters and tankers to even reach the target without losing lift from the atmospheric instability caused by the fires.

No amount of resources can prevent or stop some fires.

The resources that are pulled together from across the country to manage these fires is awe inspiring. Camps set up for crews on a moments notice—hundreds to thousands of mouths to feed, medivac on standby, helicopters and tankers flown in from across the country into some of the most remote communities, and structural protection and fire guards preemptively set up within days.

Yes, crews could use more resources, Canada could use more tankers.

Would it make a significant difference for what we are seeing in Northern Ontario right now? No.

Have mistakes been made in the past? Yes. Fires are natural and inevitable. Throughout the 20th century Canada engaged in too much suppression.

Trying to put out or prevent all fires only increases fuel load, and makes the inevitable fires much larger and more severe.

Forest and fire management today in Canada is top tier, and they are dealing with a legacy of misunderstanding forest and fire ecology. Our forests have decades of additional fuel load than they naturally would have. There’s not much we can do about that now.

Deaths are also unfortunately common—just weeks ago 3 people died in a plane crash in the Northwest Territories, protecting the community of Fort Simpson.

It’s all too common too that burned out trees fall and crush crew members.

Speak with those who work in forestry and fire management, maybe you will actually learn something and gain some perspective.

well right. They arent really meant for something that is out of control, but more like protecting the right of way or railway infrastructure when they can. So fighting a blaze that might burn down a bridge (which happened a few years back).

There are at least 2 out west pre-stationed. But they can't fight something that is out of control.
