Today in Parliament I called for sanctions to be imposed on Israel.
Words are not enough.
Israel will only stop its war crimes when Governments force it to do so through sanctions on trade, on all arms and on state officials.
We must suspend all arms exports to Israel immediately.
Why this is still up for discussion, while civilians continue to be brutally killed, is simply incomprehensible.
The murder and destruction in Gaza and beyond, is morally reprehensible and sickening.

It's hard to put into words how upsetting the videos coming out of Gaza and Lebanon are.
The reports over the weekend that no food has entered Northern Gaza since 1st October, of Israel’s attack on al-Aqsa Hospital, of chemical weapons being used to attack UNIFIL peacekeepers, of mass civilian casualties in Gaza's Jabalia Refugee Camp, and of increased rocket fire into Israel from Hezbollah, are extremely disturbing. The huge numbers of civilian deaths and the prospect of widespread starvation in Northern Gaza are intolerable.
The Labour government must recognise that violence in the Middle East is escalating rapidly and that their current approach is failing.
The Government needs to consider far more direct measures to incentivise a ceasefire including an end to arms sales, the introduction of divestments, boycotts and sanctions, prosecutions for all those who have committed war crimes, and a plan for a viable Palestinian state.
Simon I am seriously thinking of you and those like you as wishful of AIDS unchecked! I voted for S.28 when there was NO immunisation nor cure. But you and yours wished schools to teach the very behaviour that was the only known cause of AIDS. I as VP of charity CRUSAID - did not.

Suspending 30 out of 350 arms licences to Israel was an admission by the government of the risk of complicity in violations of international law.
It is legally and morally inconsistent to keep the remaining 320 in place, including F-35 jets.
We need a full arms embargo NOW.
Over the past year calls for de-escalation & warnings of regional war were ignored.
Governments, like the UK & US, enabled Israel to act with impunity so it can “reshape the region”.
All measures, including a full arms embargo, need to be pursued to de-escalate & protect lives.

Israel's decision to send troops into Lebanon, a sovereign nation, is not a "limited ground operation".
It is an invasion.
Our government's hypocrisy is on full display. Its failure to defend international law and stand up to Israel is a moral disgrace.
