I used to not care about this and was on 'who cares, just draft good players' but it does matter more than I'd like to admit. The draft being a construct to acquire discounted labor in a salary capped sport isn't something that should be ignored.

The consistently rising Cap really underscores the fact that a dollar of cap space today is significantly more valuable than a dollar in future seasons.

A team who isn't pushing cap dollars into future years isn't taking full advantage of the rising cap and isn't maximizing its roster for the current season.

There was much greater risk in that approach (pushing cap dollars into future years) when the Cap was first instituted in early 90s and during the 2000s when year over year cap growth was stagnant.

The NFL informed clubs today it is projecting a 2026 salary cap in the range of $301.2 million to $305.7 million per club, per source.

That would represent another significant jump from this year’s $279.2 million cap number, and nearly $100M than the $208.2M cap in 2022.
