Chief correspondent Jim Axelrod reported the story on the CBS Evening News. "It's been a tumultuous three days for CBS News," he said."
A pretty transparent story about the controversy ... and a look back on Pelley's career.
Then Tony Dokoupil offered his own recollection on working with Pelley: "He believed freedom of the press — to quote Madison — was the right that guaranteed all the others, and the stakes are always that high. And that if you made it to CBS News you were among the best in the world. He worked every single day to live up to that standard." (The show then rolled the tape on some of Pelley's past work.)

Anxiety is running high among Dems in DC about Platner, but there's been a teflon-like quality about his support in Maine (at least so far), where the more stuff comes out, the more people love him.
"I’m never looking for a political candidate that says, ‘I’ve done no wrong ever,’ because what would that make me?" one fan said last week
"I think Platner’s problems are minuscule compared to Trump," said another

Bonkers video from earlier today in St. Petersburg, where Russian police try to shoot down a Ukrainian drone, while bystanders casually video the effort (and the burning oil terminal in the background).
Last night, Jim Desmond and Marni Von Wilpert advanced to the #CA48 race in November
Ammar Campa-Najjar, a DC favorite, came in 3rd

BREAKING: SCOTUS rules on Alabama congressional map, clearing the way for Republicans to use a map that favors Republicans in all but one of the state's 7 congressional districts, leaving only one majority-Black district in the state. 1/2

On the baseline: if it moved, it's slight. Iowa was 10.5 points to the right of the nation in 2016 & 11.74 to the right in 2024. Very reasonable to think that the environment could be 1 point worse for Rs than 2018 & Hinson isn't an incumbent governor.
it all makes the Senate race a pretty good barometer in November if you want to figure out if the political environment was better for Dems this year than it was during the first Trump midterm.
The case Democrats make for Iowa's competitiveness this year is that whatever effect Trump has had on the national political environment, the fallout has been concentrated in Iowa. Cuts to rural healthcare, tariffs that affect Ag, and more recently, the rising price of fertilizer -- all dispraportinately affect the state
of course 13 points is a giant hole to dig out of, and Dems said the same things about Iowa in '18 only to again fall short in the guv race. The state's baseline is redder now than it was then. And Hinson is considered a stronger candidate than any of the GOP guv nominees
As soon as NJ polls closed, the AP declared Tom Kean Jr. the official GOP nominee in #NJ07
Kean has been absent from the House for ~3 months and missed over 100 votes
Still, the NRCC says Kean "has been a tireless advocate for New Jersey families"
