I am not, never have been, and never will be “Paul”
To those of you I saw in the comments defending my honor and saying I’d never accept that role… thank you and MTFBWY 🙏🏽🙌🏽
@IlGlaz Ну я спросил, потому что она записала Bond song к First light. Если будет интересно познакомиться поближе, просто включи Norman Fucking Rockwell с первой же песни и до конца. Великий альбом целиком и полностью!
The most surreal thing of our trip so far. Currently driving towards Louisiana and the radio station we were listening to started talking about our trip and played Ella Langley especially for us😭😭😭
When I was a kid my neighbor had a Nintendo in his basement and only played single player games. I’d go walk over to his house sometimes and we’d take turns playing Zelda or Rayman 2 or other adventure games for an hour before going outside to look for bugs under rocks. It was awesome and I had no concept of anything greater.
One afternoon after school while we were hanging out his older brother who was probably 14 or so came up to us and asked if we wanted to see something cool. He rarely ever interacted with us and normally did so to give us noogies or indian wrist burns but something about the aloofness of how he asked, even if I was too young to understand it, compelled us to trust him.
At this point this guy Nicky was already the coolest guy I’d ever seen. Posters of Carmen Electra and Ferrari Enzo’s on his walls. Spiked hair with frosted tips. Always blasting the best grunge music from his all black stereo system. Taught me the word “cameltoe.” Lava lamp. I didn’t even know how he knew the things he knew or how he acquired the contraband and alien technologies he possessed. It was all just very awesome.
So obviously we say yes and he takes us to his room which I’ve described above. I remember he had some Arnold Schwarzenegger poster that he glued his own face on. Anyways he sits us on his beanbag chairs and goes into his closet and from the top shelf delicately removes a cardboard box and places the box on his bed and opens it up to reveal The Xbox.
Inconceivable. Me and my friend were in shock. Nicky is rattling off characteristics of the device as though we know what Local Area Network means while we study what is clearly the most complex machine ever created by humanity. He’d secretly paid a high school senior to buy it for him. He’d wanted a particular game.
And then he goes back in the closet and lifts up a set of folded sheets and reveals the item. Halo: Combat Evolved. Rated M for Mature.
I think every man remembers where he was when he first identified and conceptualized Master Chief. For me it was there in Nicky’s room, not being permitted to touch or get too close to the Xbox nor the controller nor the CD case for the game nor the disc itself. Just staring in awe at the cover art of Spartan 117 on the box. But Nicky explained to us who Master Chief was and what this game was.
And then he booted the game up and let us watch him play for two hours until we heard the garage door opening and had to all run away from the crime scene. In between moments of excitement and screams of terror in seeing our first Hunter or going nightvision with the sniper or driving a warthog was complete silence and wonder. This night, this experience, this moment in my childhood had a permanent impact on who I am as a person. I will never forget it and cherish it forever. I can still replay the sound effect for every gun in the game in my head.
Anyways, after all of the hyping up Nicky did for us if he’d put the disc in the tray and booted the game up and it looked like this and had this sort of dialogue I would have blown his head off with my father’s .38 snub
@IlGlaz So he could have picked a co-writer to help him tell the story, too. His brother, for example, as he had done many times before. It's a valid non controversial take.
A philosopher stood in a TV Studio in 1984 and disproved artificial consciousness with a single locked room thought experiment.
the interview captures John Searle presenting his famous Chinese Room argument, explaining why a computer passing the Turing test still understands nothing.
he asked the host to imagine a man locked inside a room with a massive rulebook. the man speaks zero Chinese. people slide Chinese "squiggle" symbols under the door, he matches them using the rules, and slides the correct response back out.
to anyone outside, the room appears to speak fluent Chinese. but neither the man nor the rulebook actually understands a single word.
he proved the fundamental difference between syntax and semantics. manipulating uninterpreted formal symbols is not the same as understanding meaning.
40 years later, AI labs claim their trillion-parameter models are developing inner thoughts and reasoning.
the models are just gigantic Chinese Rooms, running trillions of matrix multiplications to slide the next token under the door.
founders sell sentient machines to investors. a philosopher exposed the trick 40 years ago.
@nycgraceryan doufu ru, chinese pickles, furikake or chili crisp are a few that I like
soy sauce (at least the kind you’ll get in packets with takeout) is a cooking ingredient and not a condiment. I don’t know why it’s served that way
