BUENISIMAS NOCHES
Joshua Maddux was 18 when he vanished from Woodland Park, Colorado, in May 2008, after telling his family he was going for a walk.
He never came back.
For seven years, his family searched for him. They found nothing.
But in August 2015, a demolition crew tore down an abandoned cabin less than a mile from his home. Inside the chimney, they found a mummified body folded upside down in a fetal position.
Dental records and a missing fingertip from a childhood bike accident confirmed it was Joshua.
He was naked except for a thermal shirt. The rest of his clothes, including his socks and shoes, were found beside the fireplace.
The cabin’s owner said he had covered the top of the chimney with steel mesh to keep animals out, and insisted no one could have climbed through it.
Despite the unanswered questions, officials ruled his death an accident, concluding that he had entered the chimney and become trapped.
Exactly how Joshua ended up inside the chimney, and why, remains unknown.
