"Legitimate" is just another terms for having a bigger gun.

All state societies retain the death penalty in practice.

Refuse to fund state war through taxes, and you are fined.
Refuse to pay the fine, and you are summoned to court.
Refuse the summons, and police are sent to your home.
Refuse to comply, and force is used.
Make an efficient attempt at defending yourself and a police officer can draw his/her weapon and end your life.

This is not an edge case. All law is based on violence. The group that holds the most (and biggest) guns decides what is deemed legitimate.

The warnings are piling up.

The greatest threat posed by AI (and technology more broadly) is not a "Skynet" fantasy, nor short-term job displacement (which will manifest as a short-term problem at worst).

It is the slow erosion of cognition in education itself, where individual self-ownership should have been formed.

Civilizations that outsource thinking will pay the price.

This teacher-turned-cognitive scientist shared a disturbing reality that left the room stunned.

“Our kids are LESS cognitively capable than we were at their age.”

Every previous generation outperformed its parents since we began recording in the late 1800s.

So, what happened?

Screens.

Dr. Jared Horvath explained:

“Gen Z is the first generation in modern history to underperform us on basically every cognitive measure we have, from basic attention to memory, to literacy, to numeracy, to executive functioning, to EVEN GENERAL IQ, even though they go to more school than we did.”

“So why? … The answer appears to be the tools we are using within schools to drive that learning (screens).”

“If you look at the data, once countries adopt digital technology widely in schools, performance goes down significantly, to the point where kids who use computers about five hours per day in school for learning purposes will score over two-thirds of a standard deviation LESS than kids who rarely or never touch tech at school. And that’s across 80 countries.”

But screens aren’t just decimating learning and making new generations less intelligent than the ones before them.

They’re doing something far worse. And when you take a closer look, it isn’t pretty. 🧵

Maximize total value realization by increasing capacity and reducing constraints, while staying aligned with reality.

Two big confusions:

1) Calling a rational strategy a “moral law.”

2) Treating desire as a compass.
Desire generates preferences; reason ranks and integrates them.

There is no such thing as "ethics of emergencies".
Your moral system is either completely coherent... or it isn't.

You cannot claim absolute, objective morality and then introduce exceptions when it suits you.

A rational agent doesn’t ask: “Is this permitted?”

He asks: "Does it maximize my own value realization?"

Egoism is not “being antisocial.”
It means rationally pursuing maximum total value realization across your whole life.

Not chasing one impulse that burns everything else down.

If you can’t explain why non-aggression serves self-interest, you don’t have a philosophy... you have a moral chant.

Non-aggression is not sacred. But it’s usually rational.

Aggression creates conflict, retaliation risk, and a world where violence decides outcomes, making you less free in the long-run.

A “value” that destroys the basis for achieving your other values isn’t a real value. It is a contradiction.

Preferences are cheap. Goals cost action. Values require reality.
Preference: desired end.
Goal: you act toward it.
Value: achieved rationally without sabotaging your wider value-set.

Freedom is a proto-moral standard.

Why? Because your level of freedom determines your ability to realize your values... regardless of what they are.

Most moral systems agree on rules. They can’t prove why their standard is objectively superior.

That “problem of superiority” is why I start one step earlier: proto-morality.

Proto-morality isn’t “good vs evil.”
It’s the logic of what increases your capacity to realize values in reality... before any moral code enters the room.

It is the gap between your capacity to act and the world’s capacity to stop you.
