I lit the subject with strong halogen lamps so that I could achieve very fine detail. The picture reflects my love of 16th century master portraitists such as Holbein and Bronzino.

This portrait is three times life-size, painted when I was 19. I worked on it all winter of 1986 with my windows blacked out so I could rig two artificial lights, one from above to represent spirital light, one from below for carnal, sensual light.
