I am a single issue voter anymore. If you support Israel in literally any way shape or form I will not vote for you. I do not care about literally anything else anymore. How can anyone see this and ignore it.
I think that's the most glaringly absent marker in modern films, less as a choice than a reflection. Where there used to be -if not pride then at least- a sense of affinity with other members of one's class, now there's a denial, a desperate & futile yearning of not-seeming-it.
Rewatched The Last Starfighter (1984) recently & was struck by how keenly aware it was of its hero's socioeconomic context, even though it bore little relevance to its plot, a throng of class signifiers organically enmeshed in a story about a US teen joining an interstellar war.
This has been on ongoing trend of modern movies. Characters barely have jobs, they have little friends and family, they have no opinions on anything happening in the outside world, the influence of money isnโt acknowledged, etc.
I've detested this life-sized ventriloquist's dummy with a passion since before it was fashionable but this beautifully (i.e. terrifyingly) written piece perfectly encapsulates what makes him especially vile.
Fantastic read.
There are two inevitabilities every time you vote in a faux-progressive grifter with the intention of "pushing them left".
1) You will not push them left.
2) Everything, not just them, will be, in fact, pushed right.
Every. Single. Time.
The lack of news on Gaza isnโt because the genocide is over.
Itโs because Israel slaughtered the journalists and Western media pretends thereโs a ceasefire.
Destroying the @InternetArchive's @WayBackMachine would be the equivalent of the burning of the Library of Alexandria - one of the worst losses of knowledge in history.
Media giants are now threatening to do this.
We can't let this happen.
Pass it on.

Ghoncheh Habibiazad has responded to why she included a supposed quote from an "Iranian" who said he wants Iran to be "levelled" and nuked, then removed the quote after I pointed it out. She blocked me, which violates BBC social media policy. This is career-ending journalistic malpractice. The BBC must immediately fire her for failing to uphold the most minimal, basic journalistic standards.

@bitmap_books 104) Thereโs a unique aura about Cauldron, partly explained by that dense, gloomy forest where the witch hides her home but also by the way the it keeps you at armโs length by having you play the role of a traditional fairy-tale villain while making little effort to sanitise her.

@bitmap_books 103) "One of the Senators, perhaps Joe Lieberman, was claiming we didnโt dare show our faces. Tom [Zito] stood up & said, โHello mister Senator, I am here to answer any questions regarding your allegations" but he was ignored, of course." - Lode Coen on the Night Trap controversy
