@AddyBrossWrites I really love latinx— in my mind, it’s an english word. And Latine is in Spanish. I wouldn’t use latinx in Spanish, and wouldn’t use Latine in English. But that’s just how I see it!
@BlytheMezzo @ogiovetti @vanmusicmag@ChicagoOpera They have been struggling to be accepted as they are. To be hired as they are. We can honor them by respecting their identity. 💕💕💕✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ I’m happy to talk more anytime! /3
@BlytheMezzo @ogiovetti @vanmusicmag@ChicagoOpera Seeing a cis-het person rewarded for calling their voice genderfluid feels icky for my trans and non-binary friends who are also in opera. They feel that their identity is being utilized for marketing, rather than artistry that they are striving for and struggling for. /2
@BlytheMezzo @ogiovetti @vanmusicmag@ChicagoOpera Thank you for such grace! I completely agree that these conversations are incredibly important, and that colloquial use and connotation really matters in these terms that are so easily turned into buzzwords. /1
@nikaprintz I think the fact that she is mistaking dressing in drag and having a dynamic voice as genderfluidity is what makes me irritated. This is ignorance combined with marketing trash.
Working with Ragnar was some of the best musical training for the career I’m continuing to build. Brilliant artists are rarely “regular” people, and with that comes unexpected surprises and challenges interpersonally. I hope Ragnar’s okay! https://t.co/sMOGQXDa7f
@zachfinkelstein He’s a wonderful man and extremely intelligent. Working with him was some of the greatest training for the career I have now, and I’ll never take that for granted. Brilliant artists are rarely regular people, and that comes with complex issues to manage, usually surprising ones.
@mtilsonthomas Wishing you all the best! I hope you’re feeling comfortable and have everything you need. I’m a survivor too— be kind to yourself, the pressure to be a machine of art is real, and you’re more than that anyway. Much ❤️ to the 🐩
A lot of people don’t know this, but time signatures are actually fractional representations of how much music a piece is. For example, anything in 3/4 is 75% music. Same for 6/8. 9/8 is really special, 113% music. 4/4 is the standard, 100% music.
