Elephant Rock – Costa Smeralda, Sardinia, Italy 🇮🇹
This wonder is a natural granite formation in the La Celvia area, one of the most spectacular and prestigious stretches of the Costa Smeralda, between Cala di Volpe and Capriccioli
The rock’s shape really does recall an elephant’s head and trunk, especially when seen from the sea
It is one of many examples of the distinctive erosion of Gallurese granite: wind, water and salt have sculpted enormous granite blocks into almost artistic forms
It sits in a truly special landscape of pink granite, Mediterranean scrub, junipers, turquoise water and small coves
Exactly the scenery that made the Costa Smeralda famous from the 1960s onward
I can say with pride that I took this photograph 📸
