Here’s how I almost lost everything in my Phantom wallet to hackers—and how you can avoid it too.

There are many ways hackers try to get into users’ wallets, but one of the most effective (and sneaky) methods is by sending duplicate tokens.

Yesterday, I bought $KITTY at around 140k and made some profits. After selling, I should have just rested like Jesus on the 7th day—but no. I jumped into the next beta play, $PUPPY, and gave back some of my gains.

A few minutes later, I checked my Phantom wallet and saw about the same amount I put into $PUPPY... but showing in $KITTY.

Now I had two tokens in my wallet, both with the $KITTY ticker.

And let me tell you, the brain is conniving. I started convincing myself maybe I did buy $KITTY by mistake instead of $PUPPY.
But then I thought—if that were true, the tokens should’ve been merged, not separate.

That triggered my suspicion.

So before doing anything, I clicked on the token and scrolled down. It showed a $16M market cap, while the real $KITTY was only at $1.4M. Plus, the value of the token wasn’t moving at all.

That confirmed it. This was a malicious, fake token. I immediately hid it from my wallet.

Now I know some of you might be like, “f*ck it,” and try to swap it—but here’s the trap:

Once you try to interact with it (swap, stake, etc.), it usually redirects you to a phishing site or prompts you to sign a malicious transaction.

And since you’re in FOMO mode trying to get that bag, you’ll sign it.

And just like that—wallet drained.

So don’t be greedy. Take a second. Pay attention.

That little bit of caution could save you from getting completely rugged.

Until recently, I only used the Tron network to send and receive USDT via the TRC20 network because it’s cheap and fast.

In cryptocurrency trading, the advice to "buy and hold" for long-term gains doesn't always work out.

I learned this the hard way after holding tokens too long, expecting them to rise further, only to watch them decline when attention shifted elsewhere.

I figured to stay profitable in this ever-changing market, the key isn't to hold tokens forever but to buy before they gain attention, take profits when they do, and hold a certain percentage just in case the token surges again.

Finding the tokens before they get attention was hard for me until I discovered attention in Defi is defined by Trends and Narrative.

Narratives and metas are ideas, events and innovations that influence investor sentiment, drive market behavior and shape the adoption of various tokens.

Some examples include:

• Real world assets

• Dog meta
• Frog meta
• political meta

How to Spot Emerging Narratives Early...

Narratives or trends are often triggered by news events or market developments and can be incredibly profitable if spotted early.

➛ Monitor News: Paying attention to news channels can help you spot events that might trigger flow of liquidity into certain narratives.

For instance, an AI conference could indicate rising interest in AI tokens.

We also saw how Trump's incident led to a rise in related meme tokens.

➛ Follow Smart Traders: Simply learn from and monitor those who have a track record of identifying trends early.
