I think it’s impossible to be better than Lionel Messi at football, all things considered.
At best, you can dream of being his equal. For that, you’d have to be Pelé or Maradona. Literal gods of the sport.
I don’t think there’s a level higher than his best. It’s vacuum after.
🚨🎙️ Julián Álvarez on how Argentina treats Lionel Messi:
“People think we take care of Messi because of everything he's won.
That's not the reason.
We take care of him because he has spent his entire career taking care of Argentina.
When you share a dressing room with him, you quickly understand that he never asks to be treated differently. In fact, he's usually the first one to joke around, the first one to congratulate a teammate, and the last person to make anything about himself.
That's exactly why everyone naturally wants to protect him.
If Messi loses the ball, the first thought isn't, 'Why did he lose it?'
It's, 'Let's win it back for Leo.'
That's the mentality of this team.
We know that one touch, one pass, or one moment from him can change everything. So if we have to run an extra five or ten metres to give him that chance, we'll do it every single time.
For us, Messi isn't just the captain.
He's the heartbeat of Argentina.
Wearing the same shirt as the greatest player in history isn't pressure.
It's a privilege that we'll be telling our children about for the rest of our lives.”
🚨 Leo Messi: “I cried because I felt that 𝐈 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 because of the penalty I missed… and the way I took it”.
“But thankfully once again, God had something special for me in the end. I’m very happy”.
Messi btw! Was completely denied space in his favoured central area and shifted to a different plan, went out wide and rolled back the years.
Egypt were clearly not prepared to play against winger Messi today and that cost them.
This fluidity, this constant reinvention is exactly what he’s always had over Ronaldo!
Happy Birthday to Lionel Messi — one of the greatest players to ever step onto a soccer field.
As if his resumé wasn't already unmatched, Messi is marking his 39th birthday after making more World Cup history this week, becoming the tournament's all-time leading goal scorer with 18 goals and breaking the record previously held by Germany legend Miroslav Klose.
The Argentina captain scored twice against Austria to set the new mark, adding yet another milestone to a career filled with them.
From World Cup champion to record-breaker, Messi's legacy continues to grow.
The reason parents are strict and set many rules for children is because they pay for everything. Once you start earning your own money, you usually gain more freedom.
It also applies to relationships. If someone has to pay for everything, don’t expect to be free from control.
@asemota I don't know the context of the original post but I always ponder on these words from Jordan Peterson about having the capacity to be dangerous or ruthless.
