Last year I made the tough decision to halt development on our first game, Everseed. Though it was an addictingly fun game to play, its growth and monetization metrics weren't strong enough. At the time, I went "founder mode" as everyone on the team disagreed with our pivot to focus on mini-games. Years of hard work had to be iceboxed, which is always a bitter pill to swallow. We also had to "restructure" our team too, which of course is a euphemism for both firing holdouts misaligned with the new direction and losing regrettable talent due to creative demotivation. Four months after the pivot, we launched Farm Frens on Telegram and found viral success, becoming a top 20 grossing mini-app. Although Telegram's liquidity did not sustain its hype, our early strategic pivot led to many more attractive opportunities since then to relaunch @frenwtf on other platforms, like @baseapp soon. To this day, our OG Everseed community members still miss playing our first game and ask me when it will come back. I miss it dearly too, as it was my personal fave game to play as a gamer. But I'm not just a gamer anymore. I'm a founder, and one in crypto gaming. So as such I shoulder a dual burden of responsibility to not only our VC investors, but also our loyal community of holders. Since 2021, our startup studio has almost died several times due to all the bullshit in crypto. After Terra/$LUNA cratered markets, a lead investor ghosted a pending term sheet. One of our original co-founders had enough of Web3 and quit to return back to Web2, like so many other projects have done up until today. I refused because the last thing I would do is rug our community. We then had to cut half our team, eat glass, and haul ass until we raised an oversubscribed funding round days before FTX imploded six months later. Being a builder is the worst way to make money in crypto. It's so much easier to scam others, spin up bots to snipe tokens, etc. I'm not here to make money for myself. I'm here to help make others money. Our team's vision has always been to equalize opportunity for all through play. Farewell and good riddance to the amateurs, the opportunists, the tourists, the nonbelievers. We still believe. We're still building. And we will break through. Crypto gaming is inevitable.
