Straight to work as Gloucester’s MP and I am in the process of setting up my office, which will be up and running as soon as possible. Please note response times may be slower until I have my team in place. I will share details of my first surgery and how to get in contact soon.
This Christmas, a lot of people will be working hard to keep our country safe, often away from their families.
We invited public sector workers to Downing Street for an early Christmas dinner to say thank you.
At Christmas, home should be a place of safety, but for too many, it isn’t.
That’s why as Minister for Victims and VAWG, I’ve announced an additional £19 million investment, bringing total government funding for safe refuge for victims of domestic abuse to nearly £500 million.
If you suffer an accident or emergency, please go to A&E.
If you need an ambulance, call 999.
If you aren’t sure which service you need, call 111. 3/3
I have been doing all I can – including sitting down with BMA yesterday – to stop these strikes.
Unfortunately, we haven’t reached an agreement.
My entire focus now is working with the NHS team here and across the country to get through the next five days. 1/3
Our criminal justice system is on the brink of collapse and in desperate need of reform. We are letting victims down and leaving too many criminals on our streets. Read more about why I am backing @DavidLammy's reforms 👇🏻

The case for change.
Thank you @JamesFrith for this powerful thread of Labour colleagues @NatalieFleetMP, @LFarnz, @catkinson80 and @alexmclabour standing up for victims.
Action cannot wait.
The courts system faces a slow motion collapse without bold reform.
@shauntippins@MarkMooseOwen@PunchlineGlos@YouTube@BlueMeanie10@Hazlewoods Hi Shaun - cant comment on the individual case and if there's an issue the owner should appeal the valuation. I've not heard of any going up by that much in Gloucester but there is transitional relief in place to limit the increase in any event. Will post a link below 👇🏻
Importantly, this makes no change to automatic unfair dismissal rights, whistleblower protections and discrimination claims which employees will still benefit from on day 1. Lifting of the cap on comp for unfair dismissal is also a good move and will make bad bosses think twice.
Sensible compromise and good example of Government working collaboratively with business and trade unions. Day 1 unfair dismissal rights were going to be tricky to navigate with a statutory probation period so this change will improve workers rights and give business more clarity
We've worked with unions and business to progress our plans to give millions stronger employment rights.
Reducing the qualifying period for unfair dismissal from 24 months to 6 months is a compromise to benefit working people and give business clarity.

It was wonderful to welcome Alex McIntyre MP @alexmclabour to our Gloucester centre on Friday! It's always a privilege to share the stories of our children and families, as well as the commitment and passion of our centre staff.
With falling numbers of parents getting their children vaccinated, and a resurgence of disease we had previously eradicated, it’s shockingly irresponsible for Farage to give a platform to these poisonous lies.
He should apologise and sever all ties with this dangerous extremism.

NEW: Wes Streeting says he will meet reps from the BMA later this week about strike action
Asked by Gloucester MP @alexmclabour, health sec says there is 'no more room for manoeuvre on pay' & 'it would be a catastrophic mistake' for staff to walk out
No one should have to choose between losing their job and fleeing an abuser.
The Domestic Abuse (Safe Leave) Bill, which returns for second reading in Parliament today, proposes two weeks’ paid leave to allow victim-survivors the time they need to reach safety, access support, and begin to rebuild.
We welcome these proposals and thank @alexmclabour for their tireless work on this issue.
I am determined to support every child to achieve and thrive.
That’s why we’re working to strengthen support for children with SEND — because all our young people deserve the best start in life.

Young people leaving care or those fleeing domestic violence should never struggle to find a safe and secure home.
That's why changes coming into effect today will help ensure they get the safety and security they deserve.
It's a promise we made and a promise we've kept.
