I hate that society has shaped me in a way that my first thought upon receiving a bunch of "thank you!"s after giving some change isn't "wow, that really brightened their day!", it's "you're just saying that to flatter our egos, since that's what we actually want out of this"

The days preparing/searching/working where it feels like you're wasting time and all you're getting is failure.
