Anytime you are asked to list the requirements for FDI, you can quickly work your way through.
A friend said she's not seen any drafts in Civil, and asked why I said Civil has the most drafts.
It does.
About 65% of the Civil Litigation exam is drafting, if not 70%.
As a subgroup leader, I noted every draft that came our way during group tasks and carefully created a personal drafts book to keep track of them.
That is why participating in group work is extremely important. They will not cover every single draft in class. Any draft assigned during group tasks is assumed to have been taught.
At this stage, some of the drafts already include the following, and the list will still increase.
---
Week 3
Know how to draft:
- Motion on Notice supported by Affidavit and Written Address
- Motion Ex Parte supported by Affidavit and Written Address
- Applications for Joinder of Parties
- How to properly include:
- the party seeking to be joined; and
- the party sought to be joined
- Applications involving Misjoinder (where the wrong party has been joined)
Drafting of Memorandum of Appearance:
- Conditional Appearance
- Unconditional Appearance
This draft is deceptively dangerous. It is usually just one line. If you know it, you know it. If you do not, you do not.
Preliminary Objection can come in two forms:
1. Notice of Preliminary Objection and Written Address
(where it is based purely on grounds of law)
2. Motion on Notice supported by Affidavit and Written Address
(where facts are involved)
Also know:
- Application for Third Party Proceedings (Ex Parte)
---
Week 5
- Motion Ex Parte for Substituted Service
— especially the correct prayers
---
Week 7
Injunctions:
- Drafting prayers for:
- Anton Piller Orders
- Mareva Injunctions
- Drafting of Interpleader Summons (Stake Holder)
- Proper affidavit establishing all conditions for interpleader
---
Week 8
- Prayers for Default of Appearance
- Prayers for Summary Judgment
- Notice of Intention to Defend
— including the correct prayers
And Application for Extension of Time where the Defendant is out of time and still wants to defend.
I didn’t read a lot of Ethics because it always sounded simple, and I was busy battling the “serious” courses. Wrong move.
We had one of the best Ethics lecturers at the Lagos Campus. She was so nice and calm. Ethics classes were always refreshing, and she always ended with “TGIF.”😂
If we were getting threats of failure like we did in Property, maybe a lot of us would have taken it more seriously😅.
But something I knew well was my RPC.
Learn your RPC. There are many questions you simply cannot answer correctly without referring to the appropriate Rule, if not you just gave opinion answer.
Eg is the Conduct of Mr Kay proper.?
Ans: No it's not proper. This is Zero.
Your knowledge of the RPC is comfortably worth 40 marks in the Theory paper.
You need to know the Rules from 1–60, including the Money Laundering provisions.

Dear NLS students,
I know these past few weeks have been exhausting with endless lectures, externship preparation, and now you’ve already completed 2 out of 3 BOB dinners. That is not small at all.
I know you are tired. Deeply tired. The kind of tired that sleep doesn’t even seem to fix anymore. Your mind is stretched, your body is exhausted, and some days it probably feels like you have nothing left to give.
You’ve pushed through more than a lot of people can see or understand and even in your tiredness, you’re still standing.
That is because you are tough. And tough people keep going, even when they are exhausted.
This is not the time to relent; this is the time to intensify. You are much more closer to the finish line than you think. If you're pursuing a Red Scroll, this is the time to believe in yourself! (You sef no small)
Do not be discouraged because some topics still feel confusing at the moment. Understanding does not always come instantly. Sometimes your mind is processing things quietly in the subconscious before clarity finally clicks(you should have seen how excited I was when I finally understood Mortgages - that successive legal mortgage and consolidation part or after perfecting my calculations in Property taxation and Ethics😂)
Everything you are reading is storing in your subconscious, and when you need it in the exam hall it will come back to you.
Keep showing up. Keep reading. Keep pushing. One more dinner. One more step.
The next bar finals results to be released is yours. Picture it and work towards what you want!
You will be proud you did not give up.
Even when you feel discouraged, watch that Video of Wole Olanipekun, SAN giving a speech during CTB and just picture yourself in that audience.(I'll quote this post with the video).
Remember that you did not come this far to break now!!!
