Coinkite for not giving the user just one option to make the most secure seed phrase? Maybe.
The user for not using the most secure option on Coldcard? Maybe.
Or the hacker for exploiting the weakness?

@ohyishi This incident was a wakeup call for me. I now use a passphrase and subscribe to notifications from my device supplier. I hope your give away gets to those that need it most. I pray that those affected, get their life savings back. I pray that they are okay and don't lose hope.

I am the eternal optimist. I pray that the hackers are brought to justice and that user funds are fully repaid. This is another kick to the guts to an industry already marred in disripute.
Be careful out their folks and reach out for help from family and friends. Don't give up.

These people put their faith in a product that was meant to protect them.

That's a tough pill to swallow.
Imagine buying an defense system that at the point that you need it most, redirects it's own missiles at you and takes you out of the game.
The losses are significant and it is not likely for Coinkite to make many future reputational sales.

I personally don't own a Coldcard but this breach was a wake up call.
I have as of today created a passphrase on all my Cold Wallets and transferred all my assets into new addresses.
I urge you all, to do the same even if your device provider says you are safe.
Don't risk it.

If you use a Coldcard hardware wallet, please pay attention. If you know someone who uses one, call them. Text them.

This appears to be one of the most serious wallet security incidents Bitcoin has seen.
