For Thursday's podcast...FLEXUAL HEALING
Hit me with a W8 lineup question: 1 RB vs. 1 WR.
If you have 2 at a single position, look at my ranks first!
Make me proud, people.
Go!
There are several inaccuracies in this video.
Some of which are just obvious gut-check mistakes (like Squiggles in Oct 2021 following all those PFPs, Doodles pre-dating Toadz, etc.)
Be careful where you get your NFT information...

Ok, i think you’re sort of addressing the actual concerns this time. Some thoughts, in order of decreasing importance:
1. You’re assuming that fees will grow exponentially if people can’t get their transactions in. That assumption is not supported by evidence.
It’s possible it happens, but it’s also possible it doesn’t happen, and people choose to transact with other coins instead, coins that do subsidize security with issuance.
After all, those coins will be cheaper to transact with, and transactors aren’t ideologists, they just want to transact, they don’t care whether or not the system is “fair” to holders.
To get the same level of security today, are you personally going to pay $150,000 in fees for a 1-conf level of security? Or are you just gonna bite the bullet and use eth with a $10 fee?
2. I actually think the people who want to increase the issuance are a very small minority of bitcoin holders. Usually when people talk about tail emission, they’re not bitcoin holders. Not always, but usually. Within bitcoiners i mostly see 2 camps:
“This could become an issue and it’s probably a good idea to talk about this”
and
“This isn’t an issue, you’re idiots/scammers, suck my d— and saylor is our savior, also you’re an attack on bitcoin”
When I joined bitcoin 10 years ago, these issues were discussed openly, and no one was accused of being a Keynesian for discussing them. That’s part of why i chose to double down on it, because the community was open to discussing weaknesses which convinced me that it will eventually find a solution. I’m not as convinced about this anymore
3. There’s a whole lot of other bad scenarios that can happen if the security budget is too low. For example miners can try to re-mine high fee transactions in perpetuity, basically having the chain stuck and never moving on as they try to snag high fee blocks from each other.
Or users would basically bribe miners for double spend (it doesn’t have to be the miners themselves who want the double spend)
And also reasoning about confirmations become hard: with high issuance, you could say that 6 confirmations are more than enough for any reasonably sized transaction, but when issuance is zero, it depends on the total tx fees in each block, and assuming tx fees are sometimes low, it will mean you’ll have to wait a lot more sometimes, unless you pay massive fees yourself — see (1).
4. In general, i don’t think you’re doing a great job articulating the other side’s position on this. The previous video came off as a straw man because of that, and this one is better but… yeah still not it imo. If this is a topic you’re serious about, I’d recommend you discuss it with someone who thought through the opposing side more than you did. It will strengthen your own arguments and also probably expose you to some ideas you didn’t consider. Maybe Peter Todd?
