In the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquake, more than 50,000 people lost their lives. Around 6,000 earthquake survivors came to Canada under the TS2023 program, seeking a fair and transparent pathway for our future. We worked under our permits, paid taxes, and received no social assistance; we are rebuilding our lives without being a burden.

We would like to remind that Canada has historically opened special humanitarian programs during major crises:
– Bosnia War: 20,000 people received PR
– Kosovo Crisis: Accelerated refugee intake, most received PR
– Haiti Earthquake: 5,000 people received PR
– Syrian Civil War: 60,000 people received PR
– Afghanistan Collapse: 40,000 people received PR

A similar fair and swift solution is needed for TS2023 earthquake survivors. We are not a burden to Canada; we contribute, we integrate. We are aware of the gaps in Canada’s immigration system and understand Canadians’ concerns. We also face uncertainties; a PR pathway would be both a humane and logical step.

We ask for a transparent, fair, and swift assessment. This is not only our right but also a demonstration of Canada’s commitment to humanitarian values. 🇹🇷🇨🇦

I want to paint a clear picture: TS2023 is a community of approximately 6,000 people.
In Canada’s population of 40 million, this is statistically almost invisible. We understand that this program was introduced under special measures.

However, throughout its history, Canada has implemented hundreds of Special Measures programs. In almost all cases — for Ukraine, Afghanistan, Hong Kong, natural disaster survivors, specific workers, and COVID-era employees — programs that started as temporary were later converted into PR pathways or extended. One of the most notable examples, which serves as our precedent, is the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

So why is everyone silent when it comes to 6,000 Turkish earthquake survivors?

We are simply asking for equality and the same humanitarian approach. We trust in Canada’s commitment to fairness.

People were invited to start a long-term recovery here in Canada—or at least that was the plan—until they faced the harsh reality of a political crisis unfolding before their eyes. People are being held responsible for the failing government of Justin Trudeau and the incompetent policies of Sean Fraser.

A work permit was issued with no backing, no clear plan, and no future-proof steps. Behind the permit, there was no underlying support of any kind. People who survived a major disaster were given hope to start a new life, trusting the Canadian immigration system for a better future.

Now, they are left with uncertainty, hundreds of dollars in debt, no home to return to, and an unresponsive government.
