Yes. Male' used to be fish cleaning island of Giraavaru people, and now Male'has transformed into hyper-dense, centralised and the main single market for the whole Maldives. Adam Smith's Invisible Hand playing havoc now and if Karl Mark was alive he might have to write Das Kapital III.
I waited more than 10 minutes just now unable to enter my house in traffic #Malé due to severe traffic. Congestion is driven by its extreme density, with no existing regulations to control when and where delivery vehicles can operate. #MaleCityCouncil's inspections still busy taking photos, collecting data to analyse the traffic situation in #Male'. Let's make Male' a #LiveableCity once again! #YesWeCan #maldive
@rashumeeh4 Not correct, as we don't get free landb in islands, I have recently bought a plot of land inhabited island in Raa Atoll. Now I building a house a planning to move as Male' has become #unliveable.
Years of this circus and they still can’t see the solution? Please — they’re too busy collecting salaries to actually fix anything.
This endless gridlock isn’t incompetence; it’s a deliberate scheme to trap citizens in traffic jams so long they have zero energy left to discuss the real national disasters.
Genius. Truly a #LiveableCity. 🥴
I don't agree on population control. We need to build 5 more ecomicmic hubs through out Maldives as advised by the World Bank in 1978, but not bothered by successive governments seriously. If we go ahead with market model based on Adam Smith's Invisible Hands, already in Maldives, last 3 decades market forces have forces have reduced average family with two kids, and multiple millions dollar tourism industry with an average of 2 millions tourists ( service industry), we need people. Even now we have hot thousands of expatiate tomainly mainly cater for tourism and other services.
Malé's problem is simple: too many people in too little space.
A taxi stops, traffic builds up.
A pickup unloads, everyone waits.
The solution isn't more congestion management.
It's developing other regions and reducing the pressure on Malé.
Traffic has already become a livability issue for Male City. If we don’t cap the vehicle numbers soon, we will be doomed! Another bridge is almost complete and more vehicles will be added to already congested roads!
We need to reduce vehicles and cap vehicles in GMC. @PoliceMv needs to take action against those parking illegally. Penalize them and tow their vehicles. Government should not be in the business of providing parking for private vehicles instead of providing general parking around the city. Shifting from this vehicle centric mindset will shift more people from private to public transportation and the streets will have more space for efficient public transportation and interconnectivity reducing congestion. Make male’ city livable again!
In Male' ((Big Blood) #Deurbanization and #DeWarehousing#Male' should start now. Much before #ThilaMaleBridge open for public , all the wearhouses, big workshops, and #MPL should move to Thilafushi, and vehicles garages should allocated Industrial area in Male'. All 4 wheelers should be parked in their own garages. Delivery time from Thilafushi to Male' should be 9pm to 5am. Solutions so simple, sadly no political comments.
Yes. Delivery to shops from 9 am to early 5 am would solve the major traffic on Male' streets. Our leaders got conflict of interests, and not willing to take needed actions. Let's alone enforce vehicles garage laws, four wheelers are supposed to be parked in their own garages, that was a prior comments before importing the vehicle.
@ZeenadWahid Yes..Maale..Big Blood. #Deurbanization andn #DeWarehousing#Male' should start now. Much before #ThilaMaleBridge open for public , all the wearhouses, big workshops and #MPL should move to Thilafushi. Delivery time from Thilafushi to Male' should be 9pm to 5am.
A pair of Maldivan Clubs (Mugudharu). I am trying to swinging a pair Mugudharu, and it requires the proper technique and shoulder rotation. My late grandfather Gaskudahuthu who was Sultan's bodyguard, thought me how swings Mugudharu. Recently I saw pair of Mugudharu and tried to swing. #VanishingCulture #Maldives
In 1950 to early 1960s my grandfather was Maafanu Sarudhaaru, and he was send to Vaavu Atoll Felidhoo and Noon Atoll Holhudhoo to teach Boduberu and Dhadhijahan. In Noon Holhudhoo, he met a boy who could sing songs quite good,.my garndy brought this boy along with him. He is Holhudhoo Abdhulla, later became popular singer. #Dhadikoshi #Male' #Maldives
I can't agree more. We were one the oldest island civilization in the world and the first people to introduce the global currency in the world: Cowries. During the slave trade European mainly used Maldivan Cowries as money to buy slaves, other varieties and sizes of cowries were not accpeted in African merchants.

@ahmedzahid Post-Tsunami era, one of the major international newspapers had a bird eye view photo of Naifaru, and said almost one third of vegetation of Naifaru had been washed away into sea by the strength of 2004 Asian Tsunami.
