Time to move on and stop this endless cycle of intrigue and revenge. Free @ImranKhanPTI and let him play a role for national healing and cohesion that only he can play. Today marks three years since the imprisonment of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The UN has described his conditions as "inhumane" — held in near-total solitary confinement for 33 months in a small, windowless cell under 24/7 CCTV surveillance.
Amnesty International has also condemned his treatment, revealing he has not been allowed to see his family for more than eight months, has been denied regular access to lawyers since December 2025, and has suffered significant deterioration to his eyesight.
Mass protests are expected to converge on Adiala Jail today demanding his release, as his sister Aleema Khan said: "My brother is being punished and subjected to mental torture because of his stance on the supremacy and sovereignty of the country."
Khan is in prison mainly on corruption convictions.
These include the Toshakhana cases (illegally selling or mishandling state gifts received while prime minister) and the Al-Qadir Trust case (allegedly receiving valuable land as a bribe).
Khan and his supporters maintain the cases are politically motivated and designed to keep him out of politics as he is the most popular politician in the country.
Amnesty International on Tuesday called on the federal government to release Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder and former premier Imran Khan ahead of the completion of three full years in incarceration.

For three years, Pakistan’s authorities have systematically denied Imran Khan the right to a fair trial, subjected him to prolonged solitary confinement, and limited his access to medical care and visitation rights.
He has not been allowed to meet his family for more than eight months and his vision has reportedly deteriorated significantly. Both he and his wife, Bushra Bibi Khan, have now been denied regular access to legal counsel since December 2025.
Amnesty International urges the Pakistani authorities to unconditionally restore Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Khan’s right to see their family and lawyers. Both must be given access to adequate medical care and their solitary confinement, which is unlawful, should end immediately.
Ahead of planned gatherings by Imran Khan’s family, party and supporters to mark the anniversary, the authorities must facilitate the right to peaceful protest and ensure there is no repeat of the unlawful and arbitrary crackdowns on protesters so frequently witnessed in the country and against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
We urge Pakistani authorities to unconditionally restore Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Khan’s right to see their family and lawyers.
Both must be given access to adequate medial care and their solitary confinement, which is unlawful, should end immediately.

On the 3rd anniversary of Imran Khan's imprisonment, a key question is whether this move was helpful to the country. #Pakistan has had some foreign policy successes. But are Pakistanis and the country better off than they were 3 years ago? The answer is clearly no. The economy is in unsustainable peril and the government is desperately searching for financial rescue. #Baluchistan is in full insurgency mode. Pakistan-Administered #Kashmir is wracked with violence. The same is true of #KhyberPakhtunkhwa. Even in foreign policy there are setbacks: relations with #Afghanistan and #India are worse. Overall the situation is dire and a re-set is required. And that must include internal reconciliation.
PAKISTAN: Ahead of the third anniversary of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s ongoing detention, Isabelle Lassee, Amnesty International’s Acting Regional Director for South Asia, said:
“For three years, Pakistan’s authorities have systematically denied Imran Khan the right to a fair trial, subjected him to prolonged solitary confinement, and limited his access to medical care and visitation rights. He has not been allowed to meet his family for more than eight months and his vision has reportedly deteriorated significantly. If it’s true that Tabish Hashmi has been removed from Hasna Mana Hai, it only further exposes the insecurity & narrow-mindedness of those ruling Pakistan today. His video was spot on. It was respectful, factual, and offensive to no one. A little thicker skin would go a long way. Well done, @Tab_Hash_Me, for standing up for our Kashmiri brothers and sisters.
Watch the video for yourself and decide.
