What’s scarier than the percentage of kids not being able to read on grade level is the percentage of parents who directly refuse help to get their kids to read on grade level.

Prime example: a kindergarten student ended the year only knowing a fraction of the alphabet (at most 5 letters, uppercase only) and the parent refused literacy intervention because “they know enough for kindergarten.” Kids in preschool already know most if not all the letters 🙂
