Nothing is happening at the Level 5 hospital I head. Clinical Officers are on strike, OPD services are closed, no admissions are being done and all special clinics are closed. The laboratory is also non functional because Medical Laboratory professionals are on strike. The strike will continue until the government listens and acts.
All OPDs, special clinics, laboratories, Public Health offices and pharmacy services in public health facilities across all 47 counties will be non operational today due to the nationwide health workers' strike. Public healthcare services will remain disrupted until the government addresses the workers' grievances and reaches a resolution with the unions.
Unfortunately, @MOH_Kenya under CS @HonAdenDuale & chief accountant PS @fnoluga Have not been able to AGREE with @KenyaGovernors on UHC Transition more than 6Months after 8.9B allocation.
Despite the 2025 Summit Resolution & @WilliamsRuto DIRECTIVES

I'm a Clinical Officer. My brother is a Medical Doctor. My mother and sister are both Nurses. My son is pursuing a BSc in Clinical Medicine. We often joke with my father, who is a teacher, that our family is becoming a healthcare workforce. The only thing missing is a Dental Surgeon. I hope my daughter, who is now a finalist, will choose Dentistry and complete the team.
To my fellow healthcare lecturers, let's stop selling dreams and start teaching reality. Stop making students believe they will automatically graduate to the top of the healthcare hierarchy or that a degree guarantees employment. Many leave campus with oversized confidence and unrealistic expectations, only to be crushed by the realities on the ground, some even end up depressed. Tell them the truth about unemployment. Teach them medical entrepreneurship, leadership, research, innovation and other ways to build a career beyond clinical practice. Don't only talk about going abroad. Prepare them for the worst, so they're equipped to succeed wherever life takes them. Reality never disappoints those who are prepared.
The Healthworkers strike Begins on 20th July 2026 at 0059hrs.
8Days To GO.
DEMANDS:
1.PNP For UHC Medics.
2.Payment of 6yrs Gratuity arrears.
3.Payment of the KUCO CBA arrears/SRC Rates.
4.RA Signing for KEHPHU.
5.other HCWs Demands.
@BecomingKm Daktari, you should be busy saving lives in theatre not chasing impressions&Farming Engagements on x.
If COs are that bad, they shouldn't be your daily topic on X.
Find better things to do Daktari.
DAKTARI, where do you find time from your busy schedule to write about an inconsequential profession? COs come second to MOs. They know and can perform at least 50% of all surgeries that an average MO can perform. In fact, a MOI cannot teach a CO of 5years experience anything.
If they're truthful people, instead of making us wait...
Why DON'T they just print the PNP Letters watupee tukae nazo?
We know the money is there&we're waiting for reclassification. But PRINT the Letters and give us.
We will wait ONLY with the letters, sio mpty circulars.
It takes 5 years to train a direct entry BSc Clinical Officer in Kenya. The curriculum covers comprehensive clinical assesment and surgical practice in reproductive health including emergency Caesarean section, vacuum extraction, perineal tear repair, cervical tear repair, cryotherapy, appendectomy, herniotomy, hydrocelectomy, incision and drainage & other procedures within the approved scope of training.
Let’s be real, Miskellah. This benevolent advice has absolutely nothing to do with parents and everything to do with your desperate gatekeeping of BSc COs.
We all know your track record at Embu Level 5. You literally block BSc COIs from performing Cesarean Sections while clearing MOIs for them, purely out of fear. Why are you losing sleep over us? You are Gynaecologist and here I am a BSc CO with an MSc in Reproductive Health, thriving, living well and my own son is proudly pursuing BSc CO.
If we aren't complaining about our career path, why are you crying on our behalf? It’s pathetic elective thinking disguised as guidance just to hide your gatekeeping. Sit down.
Kenyans, in case you're wondering how we got ourselves here?
This is our current situation.
We've been here since the COVID-19 Days when you guys were safely in lock downs at your homes.
Now we're here and No one seems to care about us.
Our future is in question.
@ptason@UHCmedicsKe@UHCWorkers_KE@HonAdenDuale@MOH_Kenya@KenyaGovernors Ours is not to know who has the problem! As the Cs for health Duale should handle our issue that's why he is in that docket! We are not politicians &we are tired of responsibility shift ! Kila mtu afanye kazi yake. We can't be offering services to patients and to Duale as well!
@ptason@UHCmedicsKe@UHCWorkers_KE@HonAdenDuale@MOH_Kenya@KenyaGovernors Now that's another task for UHC workers??? Why doesn't the union ask for a strike to make the responsible..uhc workers have done more demonstrations?money has been allocated let the moH confirm us and take us whenever we can serve patients if we aren't needed at county level..
