Not to mention I died after becoming ill due to exposure to dangerous chemicals while teaching in the laboratory. But who knows how I died; it could've been TB for all you know.🤷‍♀️

The University of Hawaii, which I obtained many a degree from and then proceeded to teach at, did not recognize my work for nearly 90 years. All I got was a plaque and a holiday – which is only celebrated every 4 years. #Hmm #GHSMatildaEffect

Before 1946, chaulmoogra oil was the only effective treatment for leprosy. While modern antibiotics can do the job much better, I discovered a way to treat leprosy that was more effective than any other of my time. Have some perspective. #GHSMatildaEffect

While leprosy IS contagious, it is only contagious through airborne respiratory droplets(coughing or sneezing), and even then 95% of adults can't catch it because their immune system can fight it off.
