In 1640, the Dutch built a 12-foot wall for protection in New Amsterdam.

In 1664, the British captured the city and renamed it New York. In 1699, they tore down the wall and built the street now known as Wall Street.

This is Castello's map; it's the first map of the city and dates from 1660.

@Constan70997526 @WikiEducation @AASLH Agreed, image is ugly. Research shows that minorities are generally underrepresented on Wikipedia, both in who contributes to it and in what content appears. Definitely some marketing (propoganda) from them about that issue.

You might be tempted to watch the movie, The Widow Clicquot, but I recommend picking up the book first, or even instead. It’s both inspirational and educational.

The book is a meticulously researched and well written biography of Barbe-Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin, the world’s first international businesswoman. It delves into her remarkable entrepreneurial journey as a young widow in the early 1800s, during which she built one of the world’s most famous champagne brands.

The book provides interesting insights into the history of France during that era, including the origins of champagne.
