ALERT: McDonald's manager suffered from “severe second-degree burns” on 22% of his body after an employee randomly threw boiling oil at him.
Jacob Smith, 20, was working as a shift manager at a McDonald's in Yuba City, California, when Jalani Bluett, 23, allegedly threw the oil at him.
Amber Smith, Jacob’s mother, said, "He was in the office getting ready to count the money when he saw out of the corner of his eye something, and he just turned, and the oil was just thrown on him."
Bluett fled the restaurant before police arrived, but was later apprehended by the Sutter County Sheriff's Office.
Yuba City Police Lt. Michael Bullard said Bluett was being held on charges including assault with a deadly weapon, mayhem, and serious felony assault resulting in great bodily injury.
Jacob is scheduled to undergo skin graft surgery for some of the deeper burns on his face and body.
Jacob said on a GoFundMe that he would like to thank his family, friends, and faith, writing, "Thank you to God for saving my eye and giving me awesome family and friends."
