@Magdale03028309 I work for two LAs, one doesn’t and v high % of EP advice delivered on time. The other did of a few months but seems to be clearing now and I’m given advices that have only just been requested. Both use associates/private EPs, would be a huge waiting list without them I imagine.

@Magdale03028309 One thing I wonder about phonics, I regularly assess children whose working memory is so poor they cannot remember three numbers and recite them backwards. I just wonder, if they can’t do it with numbers, how can they remember 3 sounds and then blend them? Same concept surely?

@neatguy_doyle Many trainees are able to do some associate work, it’s very easy to do as a sole trader. Worth asking other EPs in your service.

@Cpaw132 Our problem solving approach as a school when I was maths lead so doesn’t have to be pastoral based. I used psychology every day as a teacher/Senco but needed to revisit my degree work to remind myself. Also try and work with your school EP, discuss their thinking with them etc

Would love to know if the same happens with tablets, and if it does, what the implications are when the child who struggles with attention is given work on an iPad to capture their attention - do we just create a cycle, further negatively impacting their concentration skills?

..much more money paying a locum to cover my reduced days than it’d cost them to give the EP team a pay increase. It’s a ridiculous system that is crumbling. I used all my savings retraining, but I’d be earning more currently if I’d stayed in teaching… (I’m much happier though!)

I wanted to return to work solely working for the LA after maternity leave, but this week, I did the maths and realised it makes absolutely no financial sense for me to do this. Consequently, I will reduce my days for the LA and do some private work. This will mean my LA spends…

@SEN_advice so how can I feel okay about providing that report for someone else’s? Can see why it happens though, there’s just not enough EPs and LAs are desperate.

@SEN_advice Was told by a recruiter recently that he was sorry I’m willing to be underpaid and to get back in contact when I learnt to value my time, because I turned down virtual work at a higher pay than the in person I’m doing… I just morally couldn’t do it. Wouldn’t want it for my child

@SEN_advice @newsworthy_gem I wish the relevant professional bodies would make it clear that it is unacceptable practice to provide a report on a child without seeing them. Also to provide advice on issues outside your area of expertise - EPs really shouldn't be advising on OT/SALT issues.
