Feeding squirrels in front of the White House. Here we are, my little brother and I, far away from home in LA, exhausted from spending our days in the humid summer heat in front of the state department, no more than 2-3 hours sleep per day, in need of a shower, our feet are throbbing from walking back and forth between house and senate, our throats dry from telling my dad‘s story, Jimmy Sharmahd a US national abandoned by our government, over and over again… but finally one moment of rest under the trees in front of the White House, eating French fries.

If these squirrels could talk, I wonder what they would tell us besides “stop feeding us junk food!” How man stories of hopeful people have they witnessed, who come to caption hill, because they, like us, believe an elected government must respect the will of its people. They must listen to their concerns. It shouldn’t take drastic measures like a sit-in strike to be heard. They must do what it’s people want, because that is what they were elected for. Not rule over us. Not deprive us of our rights. Not lie into our faces. Not leave us helpless when we need saving. Not act selfish and ruthless and put us all in harms way.

I wonder how many squirrels shared a meal with disheartened young Americans like us, who realized, none of this is true. Whose desperate pleas got silenced by big powerful interest groups. How many spent their days like homeless in a tent asking to be heard.

I wonder if those people, abandoned by their government, silenced by lobby groups, ignored by most press, and suffocated even on social media, I wonder when they realized the enormous corruption around them, if they managed to laugh.
We are the children of a whole hearted freedom fighter, a brilliant German engineer, an American patriot, a tireless journalist, and most resilient father, grandfather, brother, son and the best friend I have ever had. You can neither break our smile nor our spirit. You can push us all you want, just like our smiles, We are not going away!!!

@kshahrooz Anything that can be done to save those who are still alive must be done. I know it's hard for us to swallow it, but we have to remember that Jalali is on death row for doing nothing and he already suffered way too much.

ما چیزی به نام اپوزیسیون خارج از کشور نداریم. اپوزیسیون داخل کشور هست. اونایی که تو زندان هستن رهبرن. نه اونا دلقکای خارج نشین که وضعیت حقوق بشر بد ایران براشون نون شب میاره. نه اونایی که نشستن تو گوش بچه های مردم خوندن «جوانان محلات تهران» بیانیه داده برین بنجنگین!
