The Type 45 destroyers are receiving an improvement plan.
1. New diesel generators to fix the engines. 3 of the 6 so far.
2. Then some 24 CAMM missiles will be added to increase firepower.
This will be completed just in time for us to scrap them.
Our political class are idiots.
@FennellJW At least they referenced new orders for Chinook, not quite sure what a drone is going to do to replace the Wildcat (battle bus)
Shadow is fair enough, I guess additional Protector with AWACS kits can do that.
Keep an eye on RJ though, they need replacing.
@FennellJW Also Cyber and combat management systems for the RN.
The BAE and Thalas ones currently in use/soon to be used are going to need some major work.
@FennellJW Yeah, gritting teeth while we wait.
Specifically looking for programmes seldom mentioned.
Will the other 2 E-7 be procured.
Type 31 CIP.
Ajax/IFV procurement
RFA pay and reaffirmed commitment to the 3rd FSS.
no mention of GBAD as of yet, getting worried...
The absolute worse thing to do.
Britain is technologically, financially, R&D, institutionally, light years ahead of where Ukraine was in 2022.
The UK Armed Forces (whilst chroncially depleted & utterly starved of resources - thank you Labour) are still significantly further advanced; combined arms manoeuvre, digitalisation, integration, ability to project force globally, until now (well done Labour) a NATO leadership role, HQ ARRC, & an intelligence & SF capability even the US reveres (not for long, thank you Labour).
One of the utterly batshit but tediously predictable conclusions armchair experts & commentators trousers non-ferocious love to jump to is that the UK must fight like Ukraine 🤦♂️ & that therefore drones are the answer to everything (thank you outgoing defence SpAds who have been defence now 6 years yet their charity & local councillor roles still supercedes their defence knowledge - you utter clowns) 🤦♂️🤦♂️
The CCV was already planned in the form of the T32 (CCV is just a rename).
So the Type 83 is not getting replaced, its simply getting deleted without direct replacement. The drone classes are the stand in.
You cannot replace manned surface ships required for operating in the Atlantic, Pacific or wherever with drones. Drones can enhance people and platforms but not replace.
@thinkdefence I wanna know how they are going to build an entire CMS/redesign the BAE one for all this.
How advanced our Cybder defences are going to be (unless 99% protected against EW, then they are useless).
It doesn't matter how many you build if you only have 2 command ships at a time.
@robertporr36463@Aaron_Humanist@UKForcesTracker Do you think it's as simple of slapping a radar on and calling it a day?
You'd have to basically rip everything out and redesign the lot. At that point, it'll cost you the same as designing a whole new class.
@Ziya_Meral I don't blame the RN l, but relying on unproven tech is no way to go about it.
I would love to know where they think they're getting a CMS and Cyber defence suite for all this as well on the cheap.
It'll only end up costing them more and more.
🚨 BREAKING: Timir Ahmed Mohamed, a British man born in Somalia, has been charged with the attempted murder of five people after a car drove into pedestrians in London yesterday
The decision to go without destroyers after Type 45 in favour of drones is a decision that the Royal Navy will come to regret.
This reeks of taking the cheap option dressed up as cutting edge procurement.
The clearest example yet of this Government’s failure to fund defence.
@FennellJW Oh please, the Saling ships weren't all burned or scrapped before Steam became a proven technology. The comparison is low IQ.
The treasury is cutting the RN off at the knees hoping that these large USV projects come good in a decade or two.
Big difference.
