As the DRC marks 65 years of independence, it’s worth remembering that the King of Rwanda at the time, Kigeli V Ndahindurwa, was invited by Patrice Lumumba to attend the independence ceremony.
When Congolese officials hesitated to lower the Belgian flag, King Kigeli V proudly stepped forward and boldly took it down himself, raising the new Congolese flag.
This act of defiance alarmed the Belgian authorities, who subsequently blocked his return to Rwanda and forced him into exile.

"You have a remarkable president, president Kagame whom I consider one of the greatest story facilitators of all time."
