I’m following @tylercowen rule: 2/3 of the course on the subject itself, 1/3 on AI integrated into the course.
I’m doing it in Health Economics and Development Economics. I’ve shown students how to use AI for ideation, literature review, and writing, and I built that into two assignments where AI is encouraged. But every step, from the first prompt to the final harness, has to be documented, so the goal is augmentation, not substitution.
I’m also bringing in coding, APIs, and agents, with problem sets tied to the actual course material. Same for solving mathematical models: extensions of growth models, moral hazard problems, and also the Grossman model, where AI has been especially useful.
So far, the experience has been very good. Plenty to improve, of course. But I’m increasingly convinced that the 2/3-1/3 rule works much better than having a whole course on AI in the abstract.
The AI content is all based on my forthcoming book at OUP: https://t.co/9WtTNSh9LW
