Thousands of Iranian families are facing uncertainty and fear because men who were forced to serve the conscripts in the IRGC are being treated as though they voluntarily supported the regime.

These men did not choose to join. They did not choose their assignments. Yet years later, their families may face devastating immigration consequences for something beyond their control.

Many have built their lives in Canada, worked, paid taxes, and raised children here. Some have openly opposed the Islamic Republic and participated in political activities, including the Lion and Sun movement. Returning to Iran could expose them to arrest, persecution, or serious threats to their safety.

Why should Canadian-born children have to choose between losing their home and being separated from their parents?

No innocent family should suffer because of compulsory military service.

Canada must establish clear guidelines distinguishing forced conscription from voluntary participation.

We are asking for fairness, not special treatment.

These are real families, real children, and real lives at stake.

Please hear their voices before irreversible harm is done.

A person's history deserves more than a label. When assessing Iranian nationals whose connection to the IRGC arose from compulsory conscription, authorities should consider the circumstances of assignment, duties performed, degree of choice, and any evidence of voluntary affiliation. Compulsion is not choice. Iranian conscripts who were assigned to the IRGC years ago should not automatically be assessed in the same way as individuals who voluntarily joined or cooperated with it. In Iran, without finishing compulsory service, you can't open a bank account, get a driver's license, or go to university. It's required just to live a normal life. Treating forced service like a choice makes zero sense.
