The awesome @maddie_sofia and team came to play with us during the @UBGeology NSF funded large scale experiment workshop

@Evoke_Niksu The weight of the ocean is already really significant, so rising sea levels are unlikely to impact volcanic activity. Melting glaciers on volcanoes can decrease pressure & increase magma (evidence from Iceland). But modern glaciers on volc are not as thick so may not be an issue
Geological evidence shows that, since the year 1200, new eruptions have occurred mostly from vents/fissures along rift zones. Prior to that, lava erupted mostly from the summit before sometimes overflowing the summit crater.
FWIW: official USGS volcano information will always come from accounts that have the handles @USGSVolcanoes, @alaska_avo, & @USGS and are linked from our web pages.

This short video shows thermal camera footage of the onset of the #MaunaLoa eruption from the volcano's summit. The temperature in degrees C is shown by the colored scale bar on the right. For additional information visit: https://t.co/rfwkMVSJKM #MaunaLoaErupts

A recent plastic-tephra-garbage deposit near the north beach at Anak Krakatau. Pieces of plastic are molten as the hot ash was deposited. Probably need to invent a new rock name for this - any suggestions folks?
@lavagirlnz @lavabombs I'm never sure what NZ has got since I left. I used to send care packages to my office mates of sour patch kids and PB m&ms and they would send back chocolate fush and manuka honey things.
@lisgallant @lavagirlnz @Volcanologist The duck will be going. I get the privilege of chaperoning it. I think more people like the duck than me some days :)
Sometime science requires you to practice using grabby arms. Ugrad researcher @UGresearchUMKC Mya Thomas is working on a plan to put and measure ground control points for 3d visualizations in/on difficult to reach targets.
What I find amazing about this is that these oceanic volcanoes have been building up huge mountains under the water for an incredibly long time, and we get to witness the moment they reach the surface.
This can also happen multiple times as the ocean erodes away a young island.
Using pasta to practice design and itteration with #kce3 Pictures are of team members building towers to hold up a marshmallow and a test of which is stronger gluten free or traditional spaghetti.
